Year 1 take an afternoon walk!

8th October 2014

Year 1 enjoyed a sunny afternoon walk around the local area as part of their project  ‘All About Me’.

The children enjoyed looking at all the local features. They saw lots of dragonflies flying over the brook and builders driving their diggers.

Year 1 enjoyed spending time together as a year group at the park running through the tunnels and playing in the sand.

Once back in school the children mapped out their walk using maps of the local area.

The year 1 team would like to thank all the parent helpers who came along.

The great Year 5 bake off!

8th October 2014

This week we have turned into mini Mary Berry and Paul Hollywoods and have grown our baking talents! On Monday we spent the afternoon measuring, mixing and pouring ingredients to make flapjacks and cakes for our curriculum tea on Tuesday.  We had great fun! On Tuesday we really enjoyed decorating our cakes, making icing and covering them in sprinkles. We then made a variety of sandwiches.  Here are a few pictures of our finished creations!

Would Mammoths survive in the Arctic today?

8th October 2014V Holloway

Since our fantastic Ignite trip to the Natural History Museum, 5C have been very busy researching and collecting all the information they need to write their Frozen Planet documentaries which will answer our project question:

Would Mammoths survive in the Arctic today?

We have been comparing the Arctic and the Ice Age, identifying the similarities and differences between the climate, landscapes and animals. We have been focusing on the mighty polar bear and the King of the Ice Age, the mammoth, looking at their lifecycles and adaptations.

This week we will start writing and practising our documentaries so that we are ready to start filming next week!

Year 1 Baking extravaganza

7th October 2014

WOW! What a busy day it has been in Miss Tate’s class today!

We have been busy preparing lots of yummy treats for our curriculum tea. We spent the morning having lots of fun weighing, mixing and getting our hands all sticky and gooey and baked some very scrumptious rock cakes, cup cakes and flapjack for our families to enjoy.

After lunch we managed to butter and fill four loaves of bread to make chicken and cheese sandwiches.

It was a great success and there was no food left at the end of curriculum tea! Not even a crumb of cake!

Thank you to all the parents who came along to curriculum tea this evening! It was a pleasure to see and speak to you all.

Photos of our baking extravaganza to follow…

Well done year 1!

Miss Tate

The Snow Leopard

6th October 2014V Holloway

In 5C we have been reading the story Snow Leopard by Jackie Morris.

We have just finished our ‘imitate’ phase where we talked the text:

Magpied exciting vocabulary, boxed it up and identified key features of the story. We can use all the great ideas and vocabulary in our own writing. Our working wall is being used effectively by the class. We use it to show our learning journey and to help us with our own writing.

We are now moving onto the innovate stage of our writing sequence. As a class we changed the character and setting of the Snow Leopard and created a new box it up plan. We will write our story independently using the box it up plan and in shared writing groups with Miss Holloway.

We look forward to sharing our end results with you!
