We had a great day dressing up as characters from our favourite books. The teachers were all dressed up too and we all thought that was hilarious! We had a long story time where the teachers shared their favourite stories with us all.
One of our favourite costumes was Rainbow Fish. She even had scales to hand out to all of her friends!
We have had a great week with lots of great learning!
On Monday we worked in trios to make visual models to show odd and even numbers. We focused on being able to explain our model to the rest of the class and all the children showed a great understanding of odd and even.
One group made an odd and even pattern.
Another group explained how even numbers could be halved.
On Tuesday we tried lots of fruits and vegetables for our masterchef ignite. We used a thesaurus to up level our words and write them into mind maps.
On Thursday we enjoyed dressing up as books characters! We even had a James from our current class book of James and the Giant Peach!
What a busy week!
Comic book strips and book reviews were the focus for Year 5’s last weekend as they completed their homework! 5C produced some amazing homework, which helped to prepare for World Book Day. Here is some of the fantastic work completed:
In order to prepare year 5 for planning their own Hogwarts style lessons today we investigated the different ways in which children learn. We also completed an experiment to find out which way we learn best as individuals.
We looked at auditory, visual and kinesthetic learning styles. We found out that the majority of children learn best by seeing the learning and being able to do it and explore it for themselves. We realised that there is no one way to learn, we are all individual and sometimes needed the learning presented in more than one way!
We will now apply our learning from today to our lesson plans, it will encourage use to think carefully about the activities we plan!
Year 5 homework this week is a writing activity. It involves looking at connectives and then writing a character description of Dobby from Harry Potter
The homework has been differeniated so choose a group of connectives which best suits your ability and write sentences using them connectives:
1) Connectives: and, because, so 2) Connectives: meanwhile, although, whereas
Year 1 have had an amazing time at Shuttleworth learning all about aeroplanes!
We learnt about the materials used to build the planes and we were shocked that most of the old planes were made using fabric.
All of the planes (except 3) in the collection are regularly flown by the pilots. They must be very brave!
Miss Jenkins has gone and done it again! We loved the ‘Open, Grow, Believe’ song so much she’s written another fabulous song for us to sing, this one to remind us to use our finger spaces in our writing.
