Finding one less…

By Mrs l Jenkins28th November 2015
…

The children continued working out problems with one less 0-20. They enjoyed drawing different amounts of rockets, planets and aliens etc on the white boards and wiping off one to get the answer. They learnt that ‘less’is the same as ‘take away’
We have a ‘take away’ action and they are beginning to recognise the take away sign.
Well done Mathematicians! 🚀🚀

Year 1 become scientists!

By V Holloway28th November 2015

In year 1 we became scientists as we started to explore different materials. We predicted which materials we thought would be waterproof. To test our predictions we set up an experiment. Here are some photos of us carefully observing what happens to the water on different materials:

There were really high learning zones as we worked as a team to complete our experiments. Super work year 1!

What happens when you eat food?

By D Gray27th November 2015

We’ve done some great practical science all about the digestive system. The children were able to see food being mashed up with saliva and begin its journey through the body! The children asked some brilliant questions and really deepened their understanding about how the body works.

Chewing food

Down the oesophagus

Stomach churning with stomach acid

Through the intestines

Out to where our waste ends up…

Where did the children think our body parts were?

Strong and Powerful home learning due Wednesday 2nd November

By admin27th November 2015

Literacy

Please see separate World Book Day sheet for full details

Answer the question ‘Where does your reading take you?’

You can answer this as creatively as possible and in any way you choose.

Spelling

Over the last two weeks we have been practising spelling ‘able and ably’ and ‘ible and ibly’ words. Next week we want to be able to check our understanding of both of these spelling rules together. We are sending both spelling lists home again to give everyone another chance to grow their spelling learning before this check.

Maths

Miss Bold’s maths group are to choose one of the measure problem solving challenges (double sided sheet) to complete at home.

Miss Snowdon’s and Mr Peters’ maths groups are to answer the question sheets on multiplying by 10, 100, 1000.

Mr Peters’ group do not do questions 6 and 7.

Don’t forget that you can complete your home learning in Tuesday’s lunchtime club.

Have a lovely weekend

Miss Snowdon, Miss Bold and Mr Peters
