Creating Timelines

By V Holloway24th November 2015

To show all of our learning from the Great Fire of London Project. Year 1 have decided to create a timeline to show the important events of the Great Fire. They worked together in groups to decide on the events they would show and created pictures and wrote sentences for each one. They had to show a lot of determination as they redrafted their pictures to ensure they met the success criteria.

It has been fantastic to see the children to engaged and enthused in this project! We are now moving onto looking at different materials as we read the story of the Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig!

Big Bad Pig!

By 23rd November 2015

This week we have started our new story in literacy: “The three little wolves and the big bad pig”. Using our text map we now know lots of actions to help us remember the story. We have magpied lots of exciting new words that we will use in our writing.

We are also using the story in our project work, looking at different materials and their properties. We hope to design a house that will keep the wolves safe from the big bad pig.

Fantastic fractions!

By 23rd November 2015

Today we had lots of fun learning about fractions in maths. We half filled up bottles with magic water, split shapes in half and painted them different colours, shared buckets of sand between two and split objects around the room in half. We then looked at finding half of different amounts.

Next we will be looking at quarters and shall be cutting up fruit to help us. Yum!

Lighting up Brooklands with lanterns and smiles!

By 22nd November 2015

A huge thank you to all those who were involved and attended this year’s lantern festival. We hope you enjoyed as much as your children enjoyed putting it on for everyone.  As always we were blown away with the efforts of every single child singing, dancing and of course lighting up our rather chilly Friday night with such amazing works of art. Well done to everyone,  what an amazing community event!

Photos to follow soon!

Can’t wait for you to join us again for next summers Walking with Giants event!
