We are growing in Tree Week!

By V Holloway11th December 2015

Year 1e have been growing their knowledge of trees this week- we read the story the Giving Tree to start thinking about all the different things that trees give us! We have been collecting lots of facts, which we will use to write an Acrostic Poem! Acrostic poems were a bit tricky at first, but we have been very determined and we are starting to get the hang of them now!

We have also been thinking about what we can give to other people, so far we have come up with:

Presents

Gotcha Smile

Love

Friendship

Eye contact

Listening ears

Cuddles

We have also been focussing on Peer Reviewing our work in trios, using success criterias to gold things that have been done well and we have even had a go at giving some next steps. We are really helping each other to grow our learning!

A Festive Afternoon!

By V Holloway11th December 2015

Year 1 on Countess Way had great fun making decorations for our christmas tree yesterday afternoon! A massive thank you to all the parents and siblings who came to join in the festive fun with us. It was lovely to see everyone working in partnership and the results were amazing! The classroom was covered in glitter, glue and cotton wool but our tree looks incredible and represents our year group perfectly!

Well done Year 1!

Maths: This is differentiated so your child should have their individual sheet with their shapes stuck in their homework book.

This week we are looking at symmetry of shapes. Symmetry is: when one half of an object  is a mirror image of the other half and it may be divided by 1 or more lines of symmetry.

Here is some 2D shapes. Can you draw as many lines of symmetry on each shape as possible.

Literacy:

As it is the winter season we would like the children to create a winter or christmas poem.

You can create it in any form of poem you like. E.g: haiku, acrostic, cinquain, limerick etc.

Here is an example of a few different types of poems to get you thinking.

Haiku (three lines with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second, and five syllables in the third. Describe without saying. E.g. Harry Potter haiku:)

His hair black as night

A lightning scar tells his life

He is a legend.

Limerick (Has five lines. The last words of lines one, two, and five rhyme. The last words of lines three and four rhyme.) Example:

There was an old man from Peru

Who dreamed he was eating his shoe

He awoke in the night

With a terrible fright

To discover it was totally true.

Cinquain (Five lines: Title (noun) – 1 word, Description – 2 words, Action – 3 words, Feeling (phrase) – 4 words, Title (synonym for the title) – 1 word). Example:

Mom

Helpful, caring

Loves to garden

Excitable, likes satisfying people

Teacher

Acrostick:

Elegantly and efficiently shaped

Good to eat

Great fun to find at Easter

Smooth shelled

Year 3 & 4 Basketball Team Place 4th!

By Mrs J Gowen8th December 2015

Well done to the year 3&4 basketball team who achieved 4th place out of the 45 schools that entered the competition!

The children competed in the heats back in November where they successfully secured a place in the finals. The children showed great determination, belief in themselves and amazing teamwork.
On the 3rd December they were one of 11 schools that took part in the finals. They played 5 matches where every member of the team had a famous Brooklands ‘gotcha smile’ during every match. They showed the highest level of resilience, teamwork and determination working together to get through to the semi finals where they were awarded 4th place.
What an achievement to be 4th out of 45 schools in Milton Keynes. We are very proud of them all.

As we started our tree project today ‘the magic faraway tree’ we were left an unexplained door in our classroom. The learning zone and buzz created in the classroom was amazing as we explored where the magic door may have appeared from and who it could belong to.
