Learning about newly hatched chicks and caterpillars

By Mrs C Kingsman6th May 2016

This week, the foundation children at Countess Way have been enjoying learning about the chicks which hatched on Tuesday. They have had several opportunities to hold the chicks, watch them in their Brooder Box and compare their different features. We have also been watching the caterpillars grow and talk about how they are changing each day.

To continue our project journey for Growing and Changing, nursery will be reading Jasper’s Beanstalk next week. We will be planting seeds and thinking about what plants need to grow well.

Year 1 visit the Sea Life Centre

By 6th May 2016
We enjoyed our trip to the Sea Life Centre and we found out lots of interesting facts about sea creatures – did you know that a jellyfish is older than a t-rex? They lived in our oceans long before dinosaurs roamed the planet!

Getting creative with sea creatures

By 6th May 2016
Today we have been creating our own characters for the next step in our writing sequence. We have already written the Rainbowfish and the Whale and now we will use our imaginations to see where our next story takes us!
Come back later to see what we come up with.

Fun in the sun!

By c pinder6th May 2016

We made use of the lovely weather today and took our learning outside! As part of our project we are connecting our knowledge of instruction writing to feeding our class fishes, Hero and Max. This is us giving clear and simple instructions to our partners using bossy verbs and time connectives.

Year 5 writers’ day

By admin5th May 2016

Last Friday myself and six year fives, along with some other schools were lucky enough to go to Long Meadow Primary School, where we met a famous author (J.P Taylor).

The children had a great day at getting their creative writing juices flowing and this promoted a positive mindset towards writing. J. P Taylor shared how he plans and gets ideas for his stories. He shared information about his life, we created our own character descriptions and planned a story based on an interesting spooky story we were told.

The children were fully engaged all day and contributed well to the sessions. They came up with creative ideas, wrote them down and shared them. One of our pupils
Overall, the pupils all had great fun and will hopefully take away the excitement and engagement with writing to make some fantastic writing of their own.

Tri-wizard cup winners!

By admin5th May 2016

Well done to Hufflepuff and Gryffindor who have so far won the tri-wizard cup for the most house points awarded in a week. These can be awarded for anything, such as, helping a friend, fantastic learning zone 4 or 5 behaviour, etc and children can lose points for not showing the right learning behaviours and learning zones in school.

Who will win it this week?
