Determined Start

Wow! What can we say? Miss White’s class have had a super start in Year 1! Both Miss White and Miss Tate have been very impressed with the children’s Determination to Open,Grow and Believe with everyone in their new class!

In Literacy we have been focusing on ‘What makes a Brooklands learner’ The children have had lots of fun learning the actions to their text map and have even started to write the text map into their books.

Miss Tate love’s a good sing song and has been teaching the children songs about capital letter’s, finger spaces and full stops. The children have even learnt a new song in maths all about number bonds! Perhaps you could practise these at home?

Today we started our project Inspiration and Aspiration and have begun by collecting knowledge about inspirational people who help us… next week we will be looking at inspirational writers,sportsman,mathmaticians and scientists!

 

Thank you to all the parents who came to Transition tea. It was great to meet you all and begin to connect as a community. We hope you have enjoyed the first week of Transiton as much as we did!

Keep Learning: Year 3D

This week year 3D have shown some amazing settling in skills. I’ve been so impressed with the way that they have transitioned up into KS2 with such maturity.

We’ve been using our 5 for change to help support us. One of the 5 is to keep learning and we’ve certainly been doing a lot of that. In particular, we’ve been investigate magnets and the way they interact with materials and other magnets. The children came up with some fantastic questions and some very scientific explanations!

 

A Super Start to Year One!

The children have settled brilliantly into their new class this week, they have all been determined super stars! We have been exploring our key author, Julia Donaldson, along with getting lots of ticks on our transition target cards. Well done, Year One!

New Year 2’s!!

Thank you to those of you who came to Transition Teas. It was lovely to meet you all and hope that you found these useful.

The new Year 2’s have settled really well into their new classes. We have shown ‘calm’ already by understanding learning zone 4 and 5. We have been building lots of new relationships and are learning how to be a Year 2 learner.

This week we have been inspired by Roald Dahl stories and poems. We even tried writing our own! In maths we have been showing our teachers our place value knowledge and what apparatus we used in Year 1 to add.

There is no home learning this week although we would like you to read with your children at least 4 times a week and please ask them about their first week in Year 2!

 

Please ensure that PE kits and reading books are in school all week.

Determined learning in year 1!

What a great week the new 1c have had!

We have settled well into our new class and the teachers have been really impressed with our determined learning. We have been very busy learning all about our peers. We now know some of their likes and dislikes!

For literacy we have been looking at explanations and what makes a Brooklands Farm learner. We have been busy learning all the different actions to go with the text. Please ask us about it as we would love to show you what we have been doing!

In maths we have been looking at number bonds to 10. We have started learning the “Number bonds are pairs of friends and together they make 10” song. Please take a look on youtube and practise it at home!

We have also begun our Aspiration & Inspiration project. We have been learning about people who inspire us. So far we have looked at Ellie Simmonds. We also looked at the brave people who help us everyday. Next week we will learn about Tom Daley, Kirsty Howard and Malala Yousafzai. Please take a look at our working wall in class or ask us what we have found out so far!

Year 6 Board game project

Our new year 6’s who have stayed at Brooklands Farm this week, have been busy creating a team through their board game project.

 

In teams they have:

  • researched games
  • planned and designed their own game including – type of game, style, price, audience and number of players.
  • made their games
  • peer evaluated their games and suggested improvements.
  • produced and advert for their games.

Inspired by Roald Dahl

In year 2 we have been inspired by Roal Dahl this week as we move from being Determined to Calm. We are proud of the way we have transitioned this week and are very excited about what we are going to achieve together in Year 2! This week we have been reading and exploring some of Roald Dahl amazing books and revolting rhymes. It has been amazing to see lots of the children reading this week! This weekend the homework challenge is to see if you can read any Roald Dahl which can even be found online.

Thank You and Good Luck!

I just wanted to write a quick thank you to all the children and their parents in Jellyfish class. Your enthusiasm and dedication to learning has been amazing this year and we have achieved some amazing things together.

Thank you so much for all your kind and supportive words over the past few weeks. I have been blown away by your thoughtfulness and I feel very privileged to have worked with all of you.

I’m sure that Mrs Jenkins and Miss Mason feel the same way.

Finally, I wish you all the best of luck as you move to your new class and continue to grow your learning journey. It has been wonderful to see you all settle with your new teachers this week. I feel very proud of you all!
