New Year 2’s!!

By l hearn8th July 2016

Thank you to those of you who came to Transition Teas. It was lovely to meet you all and hope that you found these useful.

The new Year 2’s have settled really well into their new classes. We have shown ‘calm’ already by understanding learning zone 4 and 5. We have been building lots of new relationships and are learning how to be a Year 2 learner.

This week we have been inspired by Roald Dahl stories and poems. We even tried writing our own! In maths we have been showing our teachers our place value knowledge and what apparatus we used in Year 1 to add.

There is no home learning this week although we would like you to read with your children at least 4 times a week and please ask them about their first week in Year 2!

Please ensure that PE kits and reading books are in school all week.

Recently we had an exciting afternoon with Mr Smith where we got to use thick cardboard to create our own 3D dinosaurs! We have made some that can fly, some that walk and others than can swim.

Look out for them in our classroom.

Safety Centre Visit

By l hearn22nd April 2016

This week we went on an exciting visit to the Safety Centre. Here we learnt all about staying safe when we’re out and about, at home and on the internet.

“It was great fun. My favourite part was making the 999 call.”

“We learnt that we shouldn’t go down dark alleys. There was a creepy spider that made us all jump when it came down!”

We all enjoyed finding out how to keep younger children safe. We know now to make sure we hold their hand near a road and cross carefully, looking both ways. In Year 2 we know we have to show calm and this will help us be role models to younger children.

Here are some photos from our trip.

Igniting our dinosaur project!

By l hearn19th April 2016

We have had a very busy time in Year 2! First we visited the Natural History Museum in London. Here we found out lots of interesting facts about dinosaurs. Did you know that some dinosaurs were herbivores (plant-eaters) and some were carnivores (meat-eaters)? We really enjoyed looking at the dinosaur fossils. We also really enjoyed looking in the Creepy Crawlies area of the museum!

As well as going on the trip, we have turned our classroom into a Dinosaur land! We spent a whole morning creating a dinosaur face, cave, nest, trees and sandy area for our dinosaur to survive in.

Make sure you ask us to tell you all the exciting facts we are learning about dinosaurs every day!

Friday Reading Record Challenge

By l hearn10th March 2016

1E and 2B are now in competition! We are trying to see which class can get the most families involved in our Reading Record Challenge! Instead of writing a comment over the weekend in your Reading Records, we would like you to complete our Friday Challenge with your family.

After you read together this weekend, we would like you to write down where or take a photo of where you chose to read.
We can’t wait to hear about where you chose to read!

Growing, growing, growing!

By l hearn29th February 2016

In Year 2 our current project is Master Chef. This project looks at how food is made and where the ingredients come from. First we look at plants and what they need to grow.  Today we got to do our learning outside as we set up our class experiments to test whether plants actually need water,  soil and light. After that,  we got to plant our own sunflowers! Here are some pictures of our outdoor learning…
