Literacy, maths and project homework – Year4instructionhomework

Year 4 had an amazing time this week on their Ignite days! We started the day by reading some Roman fact books and giving ourselves Roman names. We got to experience so many great things, such as, cooking a Roman pizza, creating Roman helmets, shields and mosaics, going on a Roman march and buying our food and equipment at a Roman forum after learning about roman numerals and making roman coins. We all had a great time in really high learning zones!
Mr Kerinus, Miss Blissa, Miss Coopera, Miss Courtneya and Miss Gildersa

Year 4 have had another positive week with their learning.
Highlights this week include:
Growing our knowledge and understanding of addition and subtraction, solving word problems.
We have grown our sound knowledge in science.
We have been writing out own character descriptions of our favourite animals.
Homework this week is below. We are really looking forward to seeing all your Roman outfits next week.
Have a lovely weekend Year 4.

It was a very proud day at Countess Way on Thursday the 6th of October as four teams came to play in a football tournament organised by Mr Spence. It was history in the making for more than one reason as for the first time the grass field at Countess Way was being used for a sporting event. Secondly it was the first time that Countess Way had ever had a team in a competition. Although the results didn’t go the way of the home side, it was a momentous occasion and even more so in the last match. It was the big ‘derby’ when the clash of Countess Way v Fen Street came together.
We are incredibly proud of the year 3 and 4 children who played with an open mindset to something new, who grew their understanding of what it means to play in a team together and they had to have plenty of belief in themselves and their team-mates to believe they could achieve!
Below is a photo of the history makers and the two Brooklands teams!
Well done!

Maths *IMPORTANT* You only need to complete 1 challenge and should spend a maximum of 20 minutes on this task This week we have been looking at one and two step word problems for addition and subtraction. For example: 1 step (1 operation is used): John has 4753 books and gives 1325 to charity. How many books is John left with? It must have addition and/or subtraction in it. It must have a maximum of 4 digit plus/subtract 4 digits. You need to work it out using the correct method and answer the question in a full sentence. Challenge 1: Create 2 of your own 1 step addition and subtraction word problems. Find out what the answer is so you can test a partner at school in maths next week. Last weeks Maths home learning:
In Maths, we have been growing our understanding of addition and subtraction.
This week we would like you to observe and make note of when you and your families face addition and subtraction problems at home/when you are out and about. This could be regarding: how much money is spent in a transaction in a shop/petrol station/bus station/cafe etc; how much change is given from a set amount e.g. £20; how much time you spend doing an activity and therefore, how much time you have left to do something else; how much of an ingredient you need to use in a recipe etc.
Write down in your homework books a couple of examples of how you and your families face addition and subtraction problems in day to day life e.g.
My mum, brother and I went to the cinema. We bought 1 adult ticket (£9.85) and 2 children’s tickets (£6.75). How much did we spend in total? My mum paid with £30 how much change should she get?
We will be having a discussion about all of the different ways that addition and subtraction are in our lives in Maths lessons. Please do not spend longer than 30mins writing these into your books.
Today the children were so excited to share the discussions that they have been having at home about how Maths fits into our every day lives! Have a look at some of the problems that the children faced over the weekend…
