Can you research any further information on the country you have chosen for project. Especially thinking about land use and physical features (e.g. mountains, sea, rainforests, deserts).

Please bring in any information to add to your fact file.

 

Maths:

Can you create something that explains the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages to help another child who doesn’t understand this.

This could be a: poster, video, information page, blog etc.
This must include key facts e.g 0.5 = ½ = 50% and an explanation why.

Year 5 writers’ day

Last Friday myself and six year fives, along with some other schools were lucky enough to go to Long Meadow Primary School, where we met a famous author (J.P Taylor).

The children had a great day at getting their creative writing juices flowing and this promoted a positive mindset towards writing. J. P Taylor shared how he plans and gets ideas for his stories. He shared information about his life, we created our own character descriptions and planned a story based on an interesting spooky story we were told.

The children were fully engaged all day and contributed well to the sessions. They came up with creative ideas, wrote them down and shared them. One of our pupils
Overall, the pupils all had great fun and will hopefully take away the excitement and engagement with writing to make some fantastic writing of their own.

Tri-wizard cup winners!

Well done to Hufflepuff and Gryffindor who have so far won the tri-wizard cup for the most house points awarded in a week. These can be awarded for anything, such as, helping a friend, fantastic learning zone 4 or 5 behaviour, etc and children can lose points for not showing the right learning behaviours and learning zones in school.

Report Writers

We have been writing information reports about a T-Rex. We have found out that the T-Rex could be as big as 40 metres long and 5 to 7 tons in weight! We also learnt that it hunted in the forest so it could find herbivores as prey.

We are learning to write complex sentences and explore how to link information together to help our reader!

This week we have been looking at character descriptions. Can you write a minimum of one paragraph on a character description about a character from a book you are currently reading. This can be a home reading book on your accelerated reader book. Try and include all the success criteria and think about the features on your writing standard or on your 10 ways to improve a sentence sheet stuck in your homework book.

Success Criteria: similes, metaphors, personification, powerful adjectives, features from your writing standard.

This week we have been revising our knowledge of division and multiplication and we still need a little practise to be fully confident with how to do short and long division and multiplication. Any methods you aren’t sure of we will practise next lesson.

Wow! What a first week back! We have investigated, created, explored and enjoyed our first week back! Have you seen any dinosaurs?
