A shocking discovery!

A crime scene has been discovered in 2D’s classroom at Countess Way! The shocking scene was sealed off this morning as the classroom appeared to have been destroyed by an unknown creature.

We have done some investigating and suspect a T-Rex has entered our classroom over night. The evidence left in our classroom included:

Footprints across our classroom
Tables and chairs thrown upside down
Food demolished by the meat eater… but it wasn’t too keen on the melon!
Blood tooth marks on our tables

We are currently researching more facts about the T-Rex to uncover more about the creature that has mysteriously entered our classroom!!

Why not ask us about some of the facts we have found after school? Or even do some more research at home? We are researching its appearance, its habitat and its special features.

Year 2 Reading Questions

After our assessments meeting at the end of last term one of the tools requested by parents was a list of verbal comprehension question to use when you are reading with your children at home.

2D Talk the Text

Today we started our talk the text for a stegosaurus Information report.

We have done the opening paragraph and appearance paragraph so far. Maybe you could use the text map below to have a go at home. You could even try and teach someone!

Finding Half

Yesterday we spent the morning investigating halving!

We talked about how when we halve we split into ‘two equal groups’ or ‘two equal parts’.

We carried out lots of different activities including chalking shapes outside, measuring different water containers, finding different ways to shade half and creating garden patterns which have ben split in half!

It was fantastic to see the children so engaged in their learning and we saw lots of learning zones 4 and 5!

Year 2 Assessment Meeting

Thank you to all the parents who attend our Year 2 assessment workshops. It was great to see so many of you there and we hope the sessions provided you with lots of useful information.

Below is the presentation we talked through at both sessions. If you were unable to attend please do not hesitate to speak to your class teacher and ask any questions regarding the upcoming assessments.

We are looking to put together a number of resources requested during the meetings and hope to have these available for your after the Easter break.

Year 2 Assessment Meeting

A big thank you to everyone who attended the Year 2 Assessment meeting last night. It was great to see so many people and we hope the evening was informative and helpful.

We received lots of good feedback and are looking to put together the following for parents:

A glossary of terms to support grammar and writing.

Explanations of maths methods used in Year 2.

Spelling rules lists for Year 2.

If you have any more suggestions/questions please do not hesitate to speak to your class teacher. I will be uploading the presentation onto the website after we repeat the meeting next week.

Pins in pyjamas!

It was a pleasure to give out two pins this morning to these superb learners! You truly deserve these and it has been lovely to see you both grow as individuals in our class.

We are now off to start our learning in our PJs!!

Growing beans in our greenhouse!

We have been checking up on the beans we planted during our ignite day. We have added a little water to them to help them grow. They are getting lots of sunlight in the shared space. We will update you on how they are getting on soon.

Food Portraits!

Year 2 have had a fantastic afternoon with Miss Broome working on food portraits inspired by Arcimboldo, The children worked in high learning zones to produce amazing art!

They talked about who Arcimboldo was and what he used to create his portraits.

They then looked at the fruit and veg they noticed and what parts of the faces they could identify.

Finally they created their own food portraits in the style of Arcimboldo. I am sure you will agree they look absolutely amazing and there are lots of high well beings!
