A Festive Afternoon!

By V Holloway11th December 2015

Year 1 on Countess Way had great fun making decorations for our christmas tree yesterday afternoon! A massive thank you to all the parents and siblings who came to join in the festive fun with us. It was lovely to see everyone working in partnership and the results were amazing! The classroom was covered in glitter, glue and cotton wool but our tree looks incredible and represents our year group perfectly!

Well done Year 1!

Year 1 become scientists!

By V Holloway28th November 2015

In year 1 we became scientists as we started to explore different materials. We predicted which materials we thought would be waterproof. To test our predictions we set up an experiment. Here are some photos of us carefully observing what happens to the water on different materials:

There were really high learning zones as we worked as a team to complete our experiments. Super work year 1!

Peer Markers!

By V Holloway24th November 2015

Today year 1e have shown how responsible and determined they can be by starting to peer review each other’s learning!

Using the success criteria they could identify what to gold (got it!) and what their partner needed to grow. They also started to give each other some next steps, for example remembering full stops or using connectives!

It was fantastic to see them being such responsible learners and helping each other to take their next steps.

Creating Timelines

By V Holloway24th November 2015

To show all of our learning from the Great Fire of London Project. Year 1 have decided to create a timeline to show the important events of the Great Fire. They worked together in groups to decide on the events they would show and created pictures and wrote sentences for each one. They had to show a lot of determination as they redrafted their pictures to ensure they met the success criteria.

It has been fantastic to see the children to engaged and enthused in this project! We are now moving onto looking at different materials as we read the story of the Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig!

As we move into the next stage of our topic we are beginning to focus on stories and reading within the school, therefore this week the tasks are themed around our new book of the Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig.

For your home learning we would like you to choose from the following options. You may choose to do one task or you may want to try more than one!

Success Criteria

  • Pick a topic that’s special to you in autumn e.g. bonfire night, Diwali, fireworks, harvest
  • I can use exciting ‘wow’ words (adjectives)
  • I can write using my always success criteria (capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, robot arms)
Option 2

World Book Day Competition

This year the World Book Day organisation have set the challenge of  creatively answering the question:
Where does your reading take you?
You could pen a poem, write a song, direct your own video, make a piece of art or dazzle us with something completely different

Option 3

Can I create a storyboard for the Three Little Pigs?

Success Criteria

  • Talk about the story and the order of the events
  • Draw 4 pictures to show the key events in the story
  • Challenge- Write a sentence to say what is happening in your story
Option 4

Can I design or create a book corner for our classroom?

Success Criteria

  • Think of all the things that would make a book corner exciting and a fun place to read.
  • You can add furniture and colour to your design.

Remember to bring your home learning into school on Wednesday 2nd December . We will be joining together in a circle to share homework. The children will get to talk about their work with the rest of their class and their class teacher. We are looking forward to seeing your learning.
Thank you Year 1 Team.
