Thursday 13th July

By c pinder13th July 2016

We have had such a lovely day in 1b today! First, we went to Rushmere Country Park, where we played fun games in the woods, along with a story and snack with fluffy toy woodland animals.

In the afternoon, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Kate Grey – An Paralympic swimmer. She told us all about her inspirational life journey and the people that have inspired her. The children asked lots of thoughtful and interesting questions.

A Super Start to Year One!

By c pinder8th July 2016

The children have settled brilliantly into their new class this week, they have all been determined super stars! We have been exploring our key author, Julia Donaldson, along with getting lots of ticks on our transition target cards. Well done, Year One!

Thank you to all of the parents who attended Transition Teas, it was a pleasure getting to know you and your family.

I am very proud of 1b and their achievements surrounding phonics. Every child did incredibly well and tried their hardest in their special phonics jobs. I hope they all have a lovely weekend, they deserve it!

We wish you all the best!

By c pinder17th June 2016

Today we wished Mrs Francis good luck in her new journey to becoming a mummy! Year One had a special assembly to say good bye, along with spoiling Mrs Francis with personalised cards and lovely presents. We have loved having Mrs Francis in year one and we wish her all the best, we cannot wait to meet Baby Francis!

Phonics in 1b

By c pinder12th June 2016

With the Year One phonics screening check fast approaching us (wb 13.6.16), we have been so busy practising our special phonics jobs and reviewing our sounds. Here are the children playing a game with phase 5 sounds and decoding words. Please continue to support your child by practising their sounds at home, along with playing lots of games suggested at the parents phonics check evening (treasure and trash,etc.). Of course a strong favourite is always playing games on www.phonicsplay.co.uk, where you can play for free!

Thank you for all of your support leading up to and throughout the phonics checks.

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions!

On a Safari Ride

By c pinder8th June 2016

Throughout the week, Year One have been looking at a diary entry from a safari trip in Africa. We have been unpicking the language and looking at the vocabulary that we could ‘magpie’ for our own writing. Here we are up-leveling key parts of the text to make it even more interesting for the reader.
