Year 1 Team
The Year 1 children at Fen Street will be focusing on materials over the next two weeks as part of their project ‘Through The Key Hole’.
The children will be conducting lots of scientific experiments to find out which materials are windproof and waterproof in order to build their very own street of houses.
The Year 1 team are collecting as much junk modelling as possible to help the children build their spectacular creations!
If you have any cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, bubble wrap and recycling materials you wish to dispose of PLEASE bring them into school and drop them off at the Year 1 entrance where there will be a box for you to put your donated materials in.

Year 1 Team
A HUGE Thank you to all the parents who came to help the Year 1 Team on Fen Street today with our IGNITE day! It was a huge success and the children had a fantastic time travelling back in time to 1666 baking bread, writing with quills and making medicine bags.

Noah excitedly came to show me his box of determination! He talked about all the great things he was going to put in there to showcase his determined attitude! I was so proud of how well he has developed his year 1 attitude!
As part of Black History Month KS1 have been learning about Mary Seacole. We found out that she nursed wounded soldiers in the Crimean War between 1854 – 1856. Mary stood up for what she believed in and risked her own life to save others. Look out around school for portraits of Mary that the children have created this week.
Here is the half term homework for Year 1 on Fen St . It is based around our new topic: The Great Fire of London.
Please can you bring home learning in on Wednesday 4th November so we can share it as a class.

In year one next week we will be learning all about the exciting season autumn. If you happen to spot any leaves that have fallen off of trees or conkers when you are out and about this weekend, we would love it if could collect them and bring them into school so that we can use them for our activities. Enjoy your weekends year 1!

This week we have been learning the story ‘Rosie’s Walk.’ We went on our own walk to the park and talked about what we saw around us. We are going to use this as inspiration for writing next week when we create our own versions of the story!

This afternoon the Year 1 children on Fen street were lucky enough to have a parent volunteer come and read to them.
The children love hearing new readers and thoroughly enjoyed the story.
