In year 1 we became scientists as we started to explore different materials. We predicted which materials we thought would be waterproof. To test our predictions we set up an experiment. Here are some photos of us carefully observing what happens to the water on different materials:
On Friday class 1e awarded two more Determined pins. Congratulations to Rehan and Daniel! You have both shown great determination by taking your next steps in your learning journey and always opening your heart to others. It was lovely to celebrate your special achievements with your families.
Well done!
Today year 1e have shown how responsible and determined they can be by starting to peer review each other’s learning!
Using the success criteria they could identify what to gold (got it!) and what their partner needed to grow. They also started to give each other some next steps, for example remembering full stops or using connectives!
It was fantastic to see them being such responsible learners and helping each other to take their next steps.
To show all of our learning from the Great Fire of London Project. Year 1 have decided to create a timeline to show the important events of the Great Fire. They worked together in groups to decide on the events they would show and created pictures and wrote sentences for each one. They had to show a lot of determination as they redrafted their pictures to ensure they met the success criteria.
It has been fantastic to see the children to engaged and enthused in this project! We are now moving onto looking at different materials as we read the story of the Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig!
This week in class 1e we celebrated 3 children being awarded their pins! Mia and Emily both earned their Determined badge and Alex achieved his Open, Grow, Believe pin. We are so proud of every single one of you. You are great year 1 role models!
Thank you to the families who came in to celebrate with us!

Thank you Year 1 Team.
We were very busy making lanterns in preparation for our lantern festival this morning. With help from our resident artist, Paul Smith, we used willow and masking tape to create the structure for our lantern. It was very fiddly and we had to be very determined as we worked as a team.
We then covered our structure with tissue paper and glue.
It was fantastic to see such good team work and determination. Thank you to the parents who attended the parent’s lantern making workshop. It is really helping to build the community spirit at Countess Way.
We can’t wait for you to see our lanterns tomorrow evening!
A huge thank you to all the parents that helped out at Countess Way today making lanterns. It was fantastic to see everyone working in partnership together and the children loved having you in their classrooms helping out. The lanterns are looking fantastic! We are looking forward to seeing you at the lantern festival tomorrow!
