Keep Learning: Year 3D

By D Gray8th July 2016

This week year 3D have shown some amazing settling in skills. I’ve been so impressed with the way that they have transitioned up into KS2 with such maturity.

We’ve been using our 5 for change to help support us. One of the 5 is to keep learning and we’ve certainly been doing a lot of that. In particular, we’ve been investigate magnets and the way they interact with materials and other magnets. The children came up with some fantastic questions and some very scientific explanations!

Is it fluff or hair? No it’s iron filings!

Magnets don’t need to touch to show force!

Year 3 Wheelpower

By D Gray6th July 2016

We were very lucky  to have a visit from the charity Wheelpower, who help support and encourage disabled children to take part in sport. Year 3 had the opportunity to have a go on wheelchairs that are used for wheelchair basketball. They came away with the understanding that wheelchairs are a positive thing as they enable people to take part in sport and to do things they might not have been able to do without one.

One Million Minutes! 2D closing in on top spot!

By admin23rd June 2016

This week Countess Way has joined a national challenge which is challenging school regions across the country to take up a ‘One Million Minutes’ challenge. This challenge is trying to encourage a collective of one million minutes of reading from all children taking part. After day 1 Mr Gray’s Year 3/4 are on top but Year 2D are on the hunt in 5th place!

The challenge is very simple. We have one week for our class to read as many minutes as possible!

All reading counts – whether at home, on their own, with an adult or in school.

All you need to do is:

  1. Encourage your children to read every day for the one week challenge
  2. Ask them to collate their totals at the end of each day (they can use their special bookmarks)
  3. We’ll then add them up and record the class total every day on the central website

Bring on the challenge Mr Gray and year 3/4! 2D are reading hard!

Countess Way NSPCC Fundraiser!

By Mrs S Taylor20th June 2016

A HUGE well done to all the children and families at Countess Way who ran on Friday for our NSPCC Fundraiser. The day was a massive success and I am so proud of the children’s resilience and belief in one another as they ran!

We have had a fantastic amount of sponsorship money in as well so thank you parents for all your support in organising this. Your children truly worked hard for every penny of that sponsorship!

I am delighted to announce that as a school we ran not one marathon… but 9!!! What an amazing achievement! Below are the ‘stats’ of what we ran so please celebrate these superb results with your families at home. There are a couple of Year3/4 who will be running this week due to being on a school trip so we will add their laps in too.

Safety Centre Visit

By l hearn22nd April 2016

This week we went on an exciting visit to the Safety Centre. Here we learnt all about staying safe when we’re out and about, at home and on the internet.

“It was great fun. My favourite part was making the 999 call.”

“We learnt that we shouldn’t go down dark alleys. There was a creepy spider that made us all jump when it came down!”

We all enjoyed finding out how to keep younger children safe. We know now to make sure we hold their hand near a road and cross carefully, looking both ways. In Year 2 we know we have to show calm and this will help us be role models to younger children.

Here are some photos from our trip.

A shocking discovery!

By Mrs S Taylor21st April 2016

A crime scene has been discovered in 2D’s classroom at Countess Way! The shocking scene was sealed off this morning as the classroom appeared to have been destroyed by an unknown creature.

We have done some investigating and suspect a T-Rex has entered our classroom over night. The evidence left in our classroom included:

  • Footprints across our classroom
  • Tables and chairs thrown upside down
  • Food demolished by the meat eater… but it wasn’t too keen on the melon!
  • Blood tooth marks on our tables

We are currently researching more facts about the T-Rex to uncover more about the creature that has mysteriously entered our classroom!!

Why not ask us about some of the facts we have found after school? Or even do some more research at home? We are researching its appearance, its habitat and its special features.
