Comic book strips and book reviews were the focus for Year 5’s last weekend as they completed their homework! 5C produced some amazing homework, which helped to prepare for World Book Day. Here is some of the fantastic work completed:
The second ‘individual’ pin was awarded in 5c today. Congratulations to Keaton! Members of 5c said he had been an individual by ‘making good choices and being responsible’ and for ‘achieving learning zones 4 and 5’. We are all very proud of you!
5C celebrated this morning as the first person in our class was awarded their individual pin! Congratulations to Emily who proudly received her pin today. In circle this morning we all said how Emily had been an individual to earn her pin, these included reasons such as ‘she has opened her heart to help people grow in their learning’, ‘Emily achieves learning zone 4 and 5 all the time’. We are all very proud of you!
Next week we are looking forward to awarding out second individual pin!
In year 5 we are studying the Oak tree for tree week. We have started by researching the lifecycle of the Oak Tree and have created excellent diagrams to show our learning.
We will use this knowledge to create poetry and art about the Oak Tree!
We all really enjoyed our Volkswagen project on the Beetle. A group of year 5’s were able to go to the Volkswagen head office to present our work to Volkswagen employees -They were very impressed with our learning!

For the end of our talk for writing sequence, based on the book The Snow Leopard, 5c have been writing their own short stories.
Their success criteria included:
- Setting- frozen, cold
- Characters- a spirit animal and a child
- Dilemma- something or someone must enter the village
- Adjectives and Adverbs
- Alliteration
- Connective
- Variety of sentence openers
Everyone made excellent starts on their writing. They magpied some of the vocabulary from the Snow Leopard to use in their own writing.
