Year 4 – Week 3

By f gilders23rd September 2016

Year 4 have had another positive week with their learning. We have all had more than our fair share of sugar this week due to the Roald Dahl themed curriculum tea! Thank you to everyone for their time and effort baking – they were really fantastic.

Highlights this week include:

The beginning of Roman shield making in DT (Fen Street).
Growing our knowledge and understanding of rounding, addition and subtraction.
Developing our understanding of what makes a quality learning environment and having an impact on our own space.
Developing our vocabulary for our Michael Morpurgo character description competition.

Have a lovely weekend Year 4.

Miss Bliss, Miss Cooper, Mr Kerin, Miss Gilders and Miss Courtney

Adapting our learning environment

By D Gray16th September 2016

At Brooklands Farm we believe that learning isn’t just about sitting at a desk. We believe that children learn in different ways and in different places. So as a team, partnered with the children, we have set about creating a learning environment where children can thrive.

Here are the children busy at work. The finalised learning spaces will be unveiled next week!

Stuart Myers visit

By D Gray16th September 2016

We had the privelege of having Stuart Myers in to talk to Year 3, 4 and 5 this week.

Stuart was born with no arms but this has not stopped him living a normal life. The children heard how he is married with children, he dresses himself and he can even drive!

Stuart’s message was a fantastic link to our Inspiration and Aspiration project, in that if you give things a go and believe in yourself then you will achieve.

Five hints for your future

By Miss Rebecca Snowdon14th September 2016

This week the Junior school had a special visitor, Stuart Myers.  He is a very inspirational man, born without arms, who showed us that it is ok to have weaknesses.  Stuart shared his amazing story with us, showed how he has found ways to be completely independent and how he can do everything anyone else can do…even fly a plane!

Year 4 Homework

By admin9th September 2016

This year, Year 4 homework will be from next week given out on a Thursday to be handed in on a Wednesday.

Spellings will also be given out on a Thursday for children to practice for their weekly spelling test every Wednesday (the following Wednesday)

Homework will be marked on Wednesdays as well.

If your child is struggling with their homework, please encourage them to speak to their teacher, who will arrange a time in the school day to go through it with them.

Thanks

Year 5 and 4 trip to the Kingston Library!

By admin21st July 2016

Year five and four had an amazing morning yesterday when we all walked to the Kingston Library. Everyone had a fantastic time discovering all about the summer reading challenge, exploring all the different types of books, reading their favourite and picking out books from our year group author (Michael Morpurgo – year four and Anthony Horowitz – year five).

All the children were totally engaged, model students and all of them were desperate to go back and take out their favourite book. They all loved the trip and we hope they take up the summer reading challenge at their local library this summer!

Mr Kerin and Miss Snowdon.
