The children loved mixing colours and painting some large planets outside.
There was also a lot of different discussions about how the ‘alien food’ felt.

During Parliament time the children chose to make rockets. After they completed them the class helped to ‘review’ their peers learning. We say ‘green’ means they need to continue and ‘grow’their learning to make it even better and ‘gold’ means they have achieved it’got it!’ The children could all celebrate the children’s achievements and could give some helpful advise about what else the rocket needs to make it even better. E.g. “It needs fire” “It needs a door and some Windows”
The children are becoming more confident writing their names this week.
Most of the children can write their initial letter of their name now.
A very big Well done to Lucas for being able to write his ‘L’ this week⭐️
If the children can write their names they can begin to write, ‘I am (name).’
I have introduced them to the song I have written to help them remember their finger spaces.
Finger spaces, finger spaces,
After each word, after each word,
So it’s not one long word,
So it’s not one long word,
Now we can read it,
Now we can read it!
Wow! Starfish class have turned into superstars this week! When they chose what to do during ‘Parliment time’ they wanted to make their own individual ‘whatever next’ books. A lot of the children continued focussing on this throughout the week. They were able to add more pages from the story and talk confidently about the pictures. In ‘Parliament time’ the children ‘plan, do and review their own learning’ with the support of the adult. We looked at writing words from the story and using the sound mats to help them write, for example baby and moon!
For example, baby, what sound can you hear first? Do you know what it looks like? (Locate it on the sound mat) What sound comes next when you say baby, b…a and continue on.
Well done with becoming ‘authors’ this week⭐️🌟
The adults scaffolded the child led play when they were role-playing their moon adventures! They were talking about directions, landing on the moon, how you move on the moon and more importantly what you eat on the moon. Lots of children were on a 4/5 involvement level for a long period of time!
Here are a few links to help you at home when practising with your child:
http://jollylearning.co.uk/2010/11/03/jolly-phonics-actions/ This link tells you about the actions we use when we teach the sounds.
This link explains how blending works with a video example:

There are other examples on Youtube of the correct pronunciation of letter sounds. We follow the Letters and Sounds programme.
You can also find the songs that help us to remember the sounds – you can search on Youtube for this but here is a taster from the Jolly Phonics website:

We hope this is helpful! If you have any questions please speak to your class teacher.
Here are a few pictures of our learning this week. The children have been really engaged in the story of Whatever Next and have created their own rockets too!
Wow! What brilliant working together counting beyond 10 this week!
Lots of the children could tell me 1 more than a given number.
Next week we will be focussing on 1 less 😀
They loved this song,
1 superhero in a row,
1 superhero in a row,
Now let’s see what happens,
Shut, shut, shut your eyes,
Shut, shut, shut your eyes,
You are in for a big surprise!…
(Can chose more or less objects)
Now let’s see what happens…
(Discuss what happened)
See Mrs.Jenkins for the tune 😃
Starfish class enjoyed the heroes day for Children in need. They made a supersonic superhero car together using the wooden blocks!
Thank you so much for all the parents that donated and bought cakes at our bake sale this year and especially all of the staff that helped run the sale. It was a fantastic success and we can’t wait to hear the grand total of the money that was raised!
