The Very Hungry Caterpillar

By 15th May 2016

We acted out the very hungry caterpillar story ourselves. Have a look at these pictures to tell the story!

In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.

One Sunday Morning the warm sun came up and POP! out of an egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar!

He started to look for some food.

On Monday he ate one apple but he was still hungry!

On Tuesday he ate two pears but he was still hungry!

On Wednesday he ate three plums but he was still hungry!

On Thursday he ate four strawberries but he was still hungry!

On Friday he ate five oranges but he was still hungry!

On Saturday he at one piece of chocolate cake, one iceream cone, one pickle, one slice of swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one piece of cherry pie, one up cake and one slice of watermelon. That night he had a stomachache !

The next day was Sunday again and the very hungry caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf and after that he felt much better!

He made a small house around himself called a coccon and stayed inside for more than two weeks!

He nibbled a hole in the cocoon and when he came out he was a beautiful butterfly!

Baking Bread

By 15th May 2016

We learnt about the journey of bread to finish our Little Red Hen project.

The children had a go at baking their own loaf of bread that we all tasted. It was delicious, if not a little bit salty!

Learning about The Little Red Hen

By a mason5th May 2016

File_001 (4) File_000 (6)

We have really enjoyed learning about The Little Red Hen story.

We made masks so that we could act out the story. We also learnt a different version of the story, told by Pie Corbett, using Talk for Writing. Watch this space to see us retelling the story just using actions! We have been practising really hard.

5 Chicks hatched at Countess Way

By Mrs C Kingsman3rd May 2016

Children in Foundation have had an exciting day looking, and holding, our newly hatched chicks today. So far we have got four chicks that are strong and healthy and now living in the brooder box. We have one more, very weak and tired chick, that needed a little help getting out of its egg shell. This will stay in the incubator till tomorrow. Two eggs have yet to hatch…watch this space for an update on them!

Children have been enjoying holding the chicks and have talked about their similarities and differences in colour, size, etc. We have already had some great questions from the children including “What do they eat?”, ” How big will they get?” and “Can they fly?”.

Bread Tasting

By 2nd May 2016

We ignited our Little Red Hen project by tasting a variety of different breads. We loved discussing the different textures, herbs, shapes and colours of each bread. They were all very different.

After we had tasted the breads the children decided on their favourite type and we made a  graph to find out our favourite.

Crumpets were our winner, followed by white loaf and Italian flatbread.
