Year 1c have worked together on a whole class project today. We have been working as a team. We started by looking at a map of the world. We are trying to learn the names of the seven continents and five oceans. We then decided to get into groups to create our own world map.
Some of us made the sea back ground. Others worked on creating the land.
This week, year 6 have mostly been focusing on confidence and well being work, ready for SAT’s next week. We are looking forward to celebrating the children’s success with them next week and seeing how much they have grown in their learning since key stage one.
It is important that the children understand that these tests only cover core subjects. There are many skills and talents that the children have that make them special and unique that are not assessed. All of our children are strong and powerful learners and have grown so much throughout the year. Some of our children speak more than one language, others participate in dance, music and sports, all of which are not accessed. Every child will have their own area in which they excel and it is important that at times where tests take place, these strengths are not forgotten and it is imperative that they are celebrated.
We have invited all year 6 children in for breakfast next week. This will give the children the opportunity to sit down, relax and have breakfast with their friends. We have organised a range of fun and relaxing activities that the children can select from, which match their skills and interests.
We are very proud of the children and their achievements this year and would like to spend SATs week celebrating their success with them! Every day we watch all of the children shine as leaders in our school, who are kind and inspirational role models to the younger children. We are all a team at Brooklands and we will face all challenges together.
We hope you have a nice a relaxing weekend and remember that you are a STRONG and POWERFUL learner!
Today year 5 experienced a General Election. The day started with using persuasive language to explain our own opinions on Education, Health and Care and Environment. We were given some different policies from 6 of the main parties (but not told whose was whose) and had to choose the ones we thought were most important to us and our community. We discussed these views and gave reasons for our opinions in pairs and trios.
In project this week we have been drawing the Titanic on graph paper. After researching some of the flaws in the Titanic designs, we have added on some improvements to our own drawings for example having more life boats and using stronger materials for the iron rivets. The results have been amazing- everyone achieved really high learning zones and have really grown in their design and drawing skills.
The year 5 & 6 dodgeball team competed in the finals tournament on Wednesday.
Sitting in joint 1st place after the group matches they played a tense match to decide on who would contest the final and were narrowly beaten by the eventual winners.
In their final play-off game for 3rd and 4th place they played brilliantly and came away as bronze medallists!
