Mrs Odell took a photo of us because we were in such high learning zones!

Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

By Mrs C Kingsman31st January 2016

Foundation one finished their learning about the Three Little Pigs by learning a song to tell the story. We also watched a Disney version of the story called Silly Symphonies which you can access on YouTube. The children finished their clay pigs and some had a go making the wolf too. We learnt that there are lots of different types of pigs and they are not all pink!

Next week we continue our project Journeys with a new core book. We will be learning Michael Rosen’s We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. At home you could read the book or listen to the story on YouTube.

Please read everyday to your child, this will help their language development and literacy skills too.

By Mrs l Jenkins25th January 2016

It was lovely to see how much it meant to achieve this very important first pin.
Later on today, he proudly announced to his class friends, “I am a real Brooklands boy now!”

Some of the reasons why you got this were because:
-you inspire others to work as a team
-you are excellent at helping and following instructions
-you never give up !

Keep up your hard work!

Celebration of Tree Week!

By admin10th January 2016

At the end of last term Year 4 all produced some fabulous poems, art work and performed to their peers. We were all so proud of everything they have achieved in Autumn term and particularly in the last two weeks of the term during Tree Week.

Here is a taster for you to see some of the children’s learning that took place!

Year 4 explored the book “Into the Forest” by Anthony Browne. The story is about a young boy who’s father has not come home and is not there in the morning for breakfast, his mother sends him off with a basket of goodies for his Grandma who is poorly, and he walks through the deep forest to get there. It is based around several fairytales, the main one being Little Red Riding Hood, and on his journey he comes across characters we would know from famous fairytales.

In Class 4b the children were challenged with the task of creating their own part of the story and the question given to them was ‘What fairytale would you like to come across if you were the little boy?’ They wrote out the extract and then in groups acted them out together. They were all very creative and engaged in this activity.

Year 4 have also been learning to play the African djembe drum in their music lessons. Over the term they learnt different sounds they could make and learnt about rhythms and pitch. The children put together a performance which they shared with Year 3. Here are some videos of what they performed.

Making maps using a success criteria

By Mrs l Jenkins9th January 2016

The children made their own maps following a visual success criteria. We came up with the success criteria as a class. To have a good map you need to have: roads, roundabouts, houses, cars, shops, schools, traffic lights etc. They were able to review their learning through GOLD ‘you’ve got it!’ And GREEN ‘grow your learning’ they continued to add to their maps. Well done!
Do you know your address? Could you write a sentence… I live at…

Well Done being able to assess your own learning and your peers!
