Volkswagen dealership visit

28th October 2014Mrs L Odell

This week Year 2 had the opportunity to visit the Volkswagen dealership in Kingston to find out what it takes to be a successful car sales person. We walked all the way there and back!

We were allowed to sit in the brand news cars, speak to staff and even walk through the workshop and see the master technicans at work!

We found out what questions we need to ask customers when they come into a dealership to buy a car and even practised on a VW salesman! Isaac even did a deal on a shiny new Beetle!

After all the viewing and the selling, we were taken upstairs to enjoy some juice in the conference room. Many thanks to all the staff at the dealership for making us feel so welcome and to the parents who came along to help.

Volkswagen Week

28th October 2014V Holloway

It has been an amazing week in year 5, the children have been buzzing about Volkswagen week.

Yesterday, we worked in groups to research and create a timeline for the Volkswagen Beetle. We then presented our timelines to Andrew, who is a Manager at Volkswagen! He even told us some more information about the Beetle which we didn’t know already. Here are some pictures of us sharing our learning with him:

Today, we learnt that the Volkswagen Beetle was the most popular in the 1960’s! To investigate why it was so popular we compared it to the Ford Cortina, which was another family car produced in the 60’s. We soon realised how different and quirky the Beetle was and also how cheap it was compared to the other cars at the time. Finally, we looked at some Beetle adverts from the 60’s to explore how Volkswagen persuaded people to buy the Beetle, some of the adverts were quite funny!
Year 5 have had a fantastic week with some amazing learning taking place, I think it is safe to say that everyone (including the teachers) have grown in their learning this week. We hope you all have a lovely half term, but please don’t forget to do your homework! If you have lost or misplaced your homework sheets please look at the year 5 homework page on the website which will give you the details!

Sparks of Excitement In Year 3!

23rd October 2014admin

Wow! What an amazing few days the children have had. We are sure you have heard all about it!

On Monday, 13 different VW cars were parked on the playground. Year 3 had the chance to not only look at the cars, but to get inside them AND even sound the horn….. you can imagine the headaches at the end of the day!  The children absolutely loved it and are sure to have a brand new Audi convertible on their wish list! 🙂

On Tuesday the children were visited by The AA which included vans, a motorbike, a flatbed lorry and of course more horn beeping! Despite the wind and rain, the children had constant smiles on their faces and were excited to explore some of the roles within The AA.

Brooklands show room is now open!

23rd October 2014Mrs L Odell

On wednesday afternoon, Year 2 had some special visitors from the Volkwagen group and our very own showroom was offically opened for training purposes!

We were taught what questions to ask a potential customer and how to identify the correct model of car for them!

The children had lots of time to practise with their friends and the experts from the VW group. Some children even stood up in front of the rest of the group to show off their new sales skills. It was great to hear the children using such grown up vocabulary such as ‘recommend’!

Finally, the VW employees were on the look out for the best sales people who were then awarded Audi merchandise as prizes! Congratulations to you!

Again, many thanks to everybody from the VW group who is making this project such a success. We couldn’t do this without you! There is such a learning buzz in Year 2 and around school and lots of children achieving high learning zones.

Class 2b were lucky to visit the SEAT garage on Monday where they learnt how to sell a car. The staff in the SEAT garage were kind enough to show the children around the showroom, giving us tips on how to be the best salesperson. We learnt that you start by doing a ‘Meet and Greet’ with a customer. Then you find out what type of car they want. The fastest selling SEAT is a Leon Cupra!

VW week begins

22nd October 2014admin

What an amazing start to the week the year 4 children have had. They finally found out that their project for this week is about solving logistical problems and then had the opportunity to see cars from the VW brand on Monday.

Then on a busy Tuesday, the children had the opportunity to ask people from the VW breakdown assistance group and The AA some questions about how to solve the baffling breakdown system. This also included the chance to get to see 6 different types of breakdown vehicle. The children were full of ‘superb questions’ and ‘were some of the most polite children that The AA men had worked with’.

We can’t wait in year 4 to be able to set up our own control centre and begin co-ordinating our own Brooklands Breakdown service.

The Volkswagen Beetle

22nd October 2014V Holloway

5c are currently working hard, continuing their fantastic ignite learning. They are researching the Volkswagen Beetle and creating a time line showing how and why it has been produced and how it has adapted to become the Beetle we know today.

Did you know… The Beetle was originally called the KDF Wagen! It only started being called the Beetle by volkswagen because everyone else had started using the name because of the shape of it!

It’s fantastic to see the children so engaged and motivated by this project- they are definitely working in learning zones 4 and 5!
