As part of our Volkswagen project, year 5 are going to write a letter to Volkswagen to persuade them to rebrand the 1960’s Beetle. To prepare us for writing this letter, 5c have started their talk for writing sequence with the imitate phase.
We talked the text using our story map and actions. We practised in small groups and then performed to the rest of the class. We set each other next steps so we could grow in our learning.
Then we magpied the key vocabulary in the persuasive letter, we chose words we would like to use in our own letters. Some of the words we picked were: furthermore, persuade, recommend and therefore. We played Taboo in pairs. Taboo is a game when one person has a word (one of the magpied ones) in their head and they have to define and explain the word without saying it, the other person has to guess what the word is!
Finally, we looked at the features of the letter and discussed what made it a persuasive letter. We identified facts, opinions, rhetorical questions, connectives and persuasive language.
Our next step is to box up the letter so that we understand the structure before moving on to the innovate stage!
