After reading the Safety of Lives at Sea document (SOLAS) which was initiated as a result of the Titanic disaster, Year 5 have started to design their own cruise ship. We looked at modern ships to discover the possibilities of entertainment and facilities on board, including rock climbing walls, ice skating rinks and cinemas! We also investigated how modern ships abide by the SOLAS rules and regulations.

Our ship must be exciting and suitable for families, but it also must pass the SOLAS safety rules. We have had to think carefully about the capacity of our ship and ensuring we have enough lifeboats on board so that there is enough space for every passenger and crew member.
