The children in year 3 have entered into a Victorian setting today. They will undergo daily routines in the life of Victorian children. Roles include: mud larking, education and coal mining! This will give children a true understanding of what it was like to live in Victorian times.
Yamaha Music School visited Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 today for an assembly. Below is a letter offering a free lesson provided by them. Forms need to be returned by Monday 12th January.
Yesterday, year 5 became biologists as they spent the day investigating plants and lifecycles. They learnt about the different parts of a flower and the role of each part in its reproduction cycle. Also, they learnt about the lifecycle of a bird, amphibian or insect and compared it to their existing knowledge, the lifecycle of a mammal. Well done for taking such big steps on your learning journey!

After a morning of reading, maths and writing, year 6 were given an hour to carry on with their ignite ‘Lake Town’ building which they started yesterday.
The buildings, which they are making from wood, straws, paper and card , are being constructed at this moment. The children are deep in conversation about how to join their materials together and how to make their structure stronger so that they can continue to assemble the buildings as they had designed in their specifications.
Look at how they are coming along…

We had lots of fun bringing the story alive by going on a real bear hunt today! We were really excited when we found our class bears hiding inside the cave.

To all Year 6!

Welcome back 6b! I have really enjoyed hearing all about your Christmas and Christmas presents in our circle this morning!
Today we have been igniting our new project called ‘Different Worlds’.
Before Christmas we watched part of the first Hobbit film. In the second film, a new setting is introduced called Lake Town. For our ignite today, we have been designing and making Lake Town our own miniature, class Lake Town!

This morning, 6C have been busy designing and building their very own lake town, based on the book ‘The Hobbit’ by Tolkien.
To start off with, the children read the setting description of lake town from the novel. Following this, we watched the trailer of the Desolation of Smaug and a short video about how Lake Town was designed.
Using these ideas, we sketched and designed our own Lake Town house. We had to carefully select our materials and make sure that the measurements would be accurate, to ensure that the house would be stable.
After designing our house, we started to create our houses. We stopped for feedback throughout the design making process to adapt and improve our design.
