Mrs Higginbottom’s Blog

By Miss K Higginbottom11th September 2015

Foot steps pattering the corridors, discussions in the classrooms, laughter from the playground and a family beginning to emerge…Countess Way Campus, Brooklands Farm is open!

This week has been fantastic! The children have settled very well into their new building and new classes. Our focus this week has been opening our hearts through building reciprocal relationships. We’ve been practising good eye contact, ‘gotcha’ smiles and greeting people with ‘good morning’.

Our first team performance happened in assembly this morning when we filmed ourselves singing a Brooklands song ready to share with the other site.

We are looking forward to exploring more about Open, Grow and Believe next week….so watch out for us growing our relationships.

Powerful Presenting!

11th September 2015Mr J Peters
We have had a fantastic start to the year. At the start of the week we had a class discussion about what makes a strong and powerful year 6 learner. The expectations were very clear and everyone has been displaying them throughout the week.

Some of us then demonsted strong and powerful learning by presenting what behaviours they would show.

Maths this week has been amazing! From countdown to problem solving we have been extremely challenged but our strong and powerful behaviours have shone through!

Strong and Powerful start to the year with year 6!

By Miss Rebecca Snowdon11th September 2015

Wow!  What a week back-we’re exhausted already.  We have had a fantastic first week of the new school year.

Throughout the week, we have been working very hard on our redrafting and review – based on Ron Berger’s Austin’s Butterfly.  Here are two examples of the standard we have achieved in our redrafting so far:

On top of that, we’ve used a brilliant new learning tool called Padlet to excellent effect!  Padlet lets us write collaboratively on the smartboard using our iPads.  6a even showed 3b how it is done!

But the highlight of the week was definitely Science with Mrs Khatoon, who did Bubble-ology with us!  We made bubbles inside of bubbles:

Phew! What will we do next week?

I am the luckiest headteacher in the country!

This week Brooklands Farm Primary School became one community, one school (two sites) with one plan for success. I’ve walked between the two sites four times this week to ensure that we grow from the seed planted at Fen Street Campus five years ago. Coincidentally, we opened Countess Way on exactly the same day five years ago that we opened Fen Street this week. A great start for continuity I would say. I’ve been trying to be the fittest headteacher in the country this week but people keep offering me a lift!

Great team work at Countess Way!

By D Gray9th September 2015

What a brilliant start we have made to our new Countess Way campus! All children have shown high levels of well being and are showing high learning zones already, which is a great achievement!

Here are a few pictures of some children trying to create the tallest paper structure! We highlighted the importance of listening to each other and the concept of compromise!

Welcome to Foundation 2

By Mrs C King8th September 2015

A warm welcome to all the new families joining Brooklands Farm and welcome back to those who already know us! It has been lovely visiting you all in your homes over the past few weeks and getting to know you. We are now getting very excited to welcome you into school. We have been busy setting up our environment and cannot wait for you to come and play and learn with us.

We can’t wait to see you all on Monday morning with your Brooklands Farm uniform and your shiny school shoes! Don’t forget to bring your ‘gotcha smile’!

New lunchbox trolley in Year 2

By Mrs L Odell8th September 2015

In Year 2 we now have a lunchbox trolley! It lives in the corridor area by the entrance/exit to the playground. If your child has a packed lunch, please ensure that they leave their named lunchbox on the trolley when they arrive in the morning rather than bringing it into the classroom. They will collect it on their way to the hall at lunchtime. Snacks can be left in lunchboxes for them to collect or can be put away in trays.

We also require named water bottles to ensure that the children have access to a drink throughout the day.

Thank you for your ongoing support 🙂

A determined start!

By V Holloway8th September 2015

Welcome back to all the Year 1’s who have joined us at Countess Way! We have been familiarising ourselves with our new school and classrooms. Reciprocal relationships have started to be built through giving good eye contact and gotcha smiles! We have also seen some DETERMINED muscles starting to grow.

It has been a fantastic start to the new year!

Great start in Year 2!

By Mrs L Odell7th September 2015

What a super start to the year! Year 2 settled quickly and impressed us with their high learning zones! Long may it continue! Well done Year 2 🙂

This half term our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday’s session will be outside so please make sure children have suitable clothing such as a tracksuit ready for the colder weather including trainers or plimsolls.  Thursday’s session will be inside where the children will need shorts and a t-shirt. Please ensure that ALL items of clothing are named to minimise the risk of lost belongings.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Odell
