London Learning Love!

By Miss K Higginbottom13th November 2015
I have spent the last two days at The Whole Education Conference in London and it was fantastic!

I have listened to some great educational speakers such as Professor Tim Brighouse, Sir David Carter Regional Schools and Drs Linda Kaser and Judy Halbert. They have really challenged my thinking and inspired me as a learner. They have posed great questions such as..

As teachers do we reflect on how our culture, ethos and leadership are impacting on our pupils?

How do we make it possible for the teaching profession to pursue what they believe in as well as government targets?

At the heart of all the discussions that I have participated in over the last few days, it is clear that listening to children is what makes the difference to children’s learning.Teachers at Brooklands Farm will always listen and will always make time. Over the next few weeks I will be testing this out and making sure we listen enough.

Brooklands Farm Calculation Policies for the 4 operations in maths

By admin13th November 2015
Here are the calculation policies that show the mathematical methods we use at Brooklands Farm Primary school.
There is separate policy for each mathematical operation. Within each calculation policy, there are different methods, depending on the stage your child is working at. The policies indicate a suggested stage for each year group, but please be aware that some children may be working or a stage below of above. Your child should be able to tell you which method they have used in school. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you are unsure.

Poignant Poem…by Oscar in Year 2

By admin13th November 2015
When Mr Morrison showed me this Remembrance day poem, I couldn’t believe it was written by a Year 2 child! The words are remarkably poignant, and show a great deal of maturity. We are all incredibly proud of Oscar for producing such a respectful and touching poem. Well done Oscar!

We will Remember them

Winning, losing
People dying
We will Remember them
 .
Loud bombs
Silent tears
We will remember them
 .
Stop fighting
No winner
We will remember them
