Victorian Day in Year 3!

By admin23rd February 2016

Yesterday, Year 3 ignited their new project by coming into school dressed as Victorians. They all looked wonderful and it really helped bring their project to life! Our Victorian visitor brought a number of artefacts in to show us, including chalks and blackboards, pens and ink, canes and chamber pots (which the children particularly enjoyed learning about!) Here are some photos of the learning that took place:

Thank you for sharing with the class your occupation !!

By Mrs l Jenkins23rd February 2016

It was great to see how focussed the children were when Paul Ten Brinks dad told the class about how he writes books. He explained about having small ideas and growing the ideas that take time and lots of thoughts. This will inspire the children to have a go at writing their own stories or fact books.

Thank you again for your time yesterday!

Food Portraits!

By Mrs S Taylor23rd February 2016

Year 2 have had a fantastic afternoon with Miss Broome working on food portraits inspired by Arcimboldo, The children worked in high learning zones to produce amazing art!

They talked about who Arcimboldo was and what he used to create his portraits.

They then looked at the fruit and veg they noticed and what parts of the faces they could identify.

Finally they created their own food portraits in the style of Arcimboldo. I am sure you will agree they look absolutely amazing and there are lots of high well beings!

Growing Ignite

By V Holloway23rd February 2016

Year 1 on Countess Way ignited their next project yesterday, ‘Growing’.

We did lots of fun activities including:

Tasting fruit and vegetables from around the world and guessing where they come from.

We tried exotic fruits like passion fruit, avocado and papaya- even using our WOW words to describe their taste and texture.
We planted bean seeds to keep in our greenhouse.
We started our bean diaries by writing instructions on how to plant a bean seed, we will be observing our bean seeds closely in the next few weeks to see how they grow!
We did observational drawings of flowers, plants and leaves and labelled the different parts.
We had to look very closely at the shapes of the petals and leaves!
As you can see, we have made an excellent start collecting lots of new knowledge and learning for our project! We can’t wait to find out more.
Thank you to the parents who have donated seeds already and for the parents who helped yesterday- it is greatly appreciated!

Year 3 and 4 were lucky enough to visit the Caldecotte Xperience to ignite their new project ‘Extreme Survival’. Year 4 Electricity Ignite

By 22nd February 2016

We are really excited that tomorrow morning we have an electricity workshop coming to school. The children will build a city with Lego and connect it all to make a circuit with electricity. This should make the city light up and the vehicles move. Keep an eye on this page for photos tomorrow!

The disgusting sandwich!

By Mrs L Odell22nd February 2016

Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed the half term break. Thank you to those of you who have already handed in your homework. You do have until Wednesday to hand it in so don’t worry if you haven’t had time over the holidays.

We have started our new project this morning which is Master Chef! In literacy we are learning about a story called ‘The Disgusting Sandwich’. We have started drawing our own text maps which help us remember all the important events and characters. Over the half term we will be learning how to become successful authors and write our own amazing food related stories!
