Easter activities

By Mrs C Kingsman25th March 2016

During the last three days of school children in Foundation 1 enjoyed making their Easter cards, hearing about the Easter story and making shredded wheat nests to take home. (Pictures below)

In phonics we have been practising rhyming. At home you can help your child by reading rhyming stories and identifying the rhyming words or making up rhyming strings e.g. ‘Cat, sat, mat, hat’. You can extend this by then making up a rhyme ‘the cat sat on a mat, wearing his favourite hat’.

When we return for the summer term we will begin our project Growing and Changing with the story The Little Red Hen. Please take the time to read the letter, that was sent home with your child, about our project. Especially the suggested activities for home and the key vocabulary you can use when talking about the themes within our project.

As the weather improves please take the time to visit the local parks and encourage your children to climb and hang off park apparatus. This will help them develop their gross motor skills and lead to better fine motor skills, holding pencils brushes etc which will help them develop their writing skills.

Last, but not least, have an eggcellent Easter Break! See you back at school on Tuesday 12th April.

Easter home learning

By admin24th March 2016
Well done Foundation! You have been growing your mindsets, knowledge, skills and friendships this term.
Please continue to read with your children at home over the holiday. We would love to see them practising their letter formation and sentence writing at home too. Please share this through Tapestry or bring in any learning when the children return. Next term we will be making lots of observations about the world around us, with all the seasonal changes that occur this time of year. This is why the children have each been given a bean to grow. Please soak the tissue provided (or use cotton wool) with water. When the bean starts sprouting, fill the cup with soil and watch it grow! All of Foundation have a Bean Diary to draw and write in when they observe each stage. Have fun!

Looking after our teeth

By admin24th March 2016

Foundation enjoyed their experience with the health visitors this week who helped them learn how long they should brush their teeth for. The children designed their own healthy or rotten teeth and found out about all the foods that can damage our teeth if we don’t keep them clean. They have been telling me that they have already used the timer in their goody bags to brush for two minutes! Well done Foundation.
