Literacy:

In Literacy this week we had a lesson looking at the different word classes.  As part of the lesson we learnt a word class rap to help us remember what adjectives, verbs etc are.

You can practise this one or come up with your own word classes song/poem.

A noun is the name of a person, place or thing like Mike in Morecambe with a ball of string.  X2

An adjective describes a noun like a wide smile on a painted clown. X2

Verbs are doing words. They move and fly like the birds or, like in running and jumping you might add an ‘ing’ . You can hop or dance and sing.

Adverbs like to add to a verb, they tell you more about the word. You can often add an ‘ly’ on the end like slowly walk or quickly bend.

Maths:

A maths work sheet on fractions is stuck in your homework book.

Our proud prize winner chooses his books!

By admin3rd March 2016
Today we took a trip to Waterstones bookshop so that Aydan could choose some books with his £500 prize winnings! Aydan chose 3 special friends to bring with him, and along with mum and dad’s help they chose piles and piles and books for our school! The boys were careful to choose books that would appeal to all ages, as well as books that they thought the girls might enjoy! Well done again to our wonderful Aydan!

Prize Winning reading song!

World Book DayWoBoD: The World Book Day Award

A couple of months ago we set a whole-school homework challenge around reading and World Book Day. The task was to show what reading means to you, in the form of a poem, song, poster, or anyway you thought best! Entries were collected from around the whole country and the World Book Day team have been busy deciding on the very best entries.

We are very pleased to announce that one of our very own Brooklands Farm family has been chosen as one the winners!

Aydan Patel, in Year 4, has been selected and as his prize he will be able to choose £500 worth of books for our school!

We are so proud of Aydan and completely agree that his reading song is absolutely wonderful! We would like to thank Aydan and his family for the time and effort they have put into making the song. We can’t wait to see which books Aydan chooses!

Here is Aydan’s award winning Reading song:

Year 4 Ignite!

By admin28th February 2016

On Tuesday morning Year 4 had their ignite on electricity!

It was called an electricity lego building workshop and gave the children a real life context of where electricity is needed!

We had a great morning of building houses out of lego, making circuits using a battery, wires and a bulb to light up the houses, as well as making our own small villages per class with roads.

4b worked together excellently. They showed excellent team work skills, supporting each other in their building and also structuring their village together so that it looked attractive and lit up.

Some of the children build more than one building, adding in boat houses, gardens and a lighthouse!
