The children in year 3 have entered into a Victorian setting today. They will undergo daily routines in the life of Victorian children. Roles include: mud larking, education and coal mining! This will give children a true understanding of what it was like to live in Victorian times.
After a morning of reading, maths and writing, year 6 were given an hour to carry on with their ignite ‘Lake Town’ building which they started yesterday.
The buildings, which they are making from wood, straws, paper and card , are being constructed at this moment. The children are deep in conversation about how to join their materials together and how to make their structure stronger so that they can continue to assemble the buildings as they had designed in their specifications.
Look at how they are coming along…

To all Year 6!
This is a gentle reminder that all homework set for the Christmas holidays needs to be completed and in school tomorrow.
The homework that should be completed is:
– spelling practice- you should have practiced around 30 spellings (3 a day for 10 days)
– Maths homework set by your maths teacher
– Reading homework- chapter 1 of the Hobbit.
Any problems, please speak to your class teacher before Tuesday 6th January.
See you tomorrow!
Welcome back 6b! I have really enjoyed hearing all about your Christmas and Christmas presents in our circle this morning!
Today we have been igniting our new project called ‘Different Worlds’.
Before Christmas we watched part of the first Hobbit film. In the second film, a new setting is introduced called Lake Town. For our ignite today, we have been designing and making Lake Town our own miniature, class Lake Town!

This week year three have been designing and printing their own t-shirts to wear as part of their campaign to save the rainforests of the world. Aren’t they fab?

Year 6 are loving tree week!
After an RE day yesterday looking at the Bodhi tree, today year 6’s are being scientists!
At the moment they are observing the effects of and links between temperature and the rate in which a plant grows.
Later they will be looking at exceptions to the rule- how certain plants have adapted and changed to suit their environments linking back specifically to the Bodhi Tree!
This will all come together for our end product of our tree week display!

Congratulations to our three year 6’s for achieving their strong and powerful pin!
They have shown that they can manage their own emotions, be a role model to other children and take on leadership positions within our school. They are showing through their own individual personalities and qualities that they know how to contribute to Brooklands Farm Primary School and share with others the school’s vision.
We are very proud of you in 6b. A massive congratulations!
Congratulations to our new year 6 girl, who has now achieved her gold pin!
She has truly shown she has opened her mind, heart, ears and eyes to new experiences, grown her knowledge, skills and learning and believed that she can do anything when she puts her mind to it!
We are very proud of you in 6b! Well done!
Year 4 had an amazing day today at the woods, learning about deciduous and evergreen trees and being able to link traditional tales to the forest. The children were able to create stories and their imagination was inspired. We had stories ranging from a family of mice that have to take care of the trees to moles in waistcoats and glasses that have to care for the other animals.

In the afternoon, the children were challenged to find as many invertebrates as possible. This prompted several “ewwws” as children found millipedes, centipedes and the scariest of all invertebrates, the spider.
The children could not wait to get back to continue their tree week learning and were full of questions.
All children have been asked to bring in a white t-shirt over the next few days in preparation for printing. Their homework will involve planning the design of their t-shirt that will be added in order to create a campaign to save the rainforest.
Success criteria:
– what is a slogan? (find example of ones you like)
– think of a catchy slogan for your t-shirt
– add drawings of the rainforest to the t-shirt design
– use some facts and figures (deforestation homework)
Due to assessment week, spellings will remain the same.
