All About Me Books

By V Holloway19th October 2015

Today 1e spent a whole day working on their All About Me books. This is the create and communicate part of our project, where use all the information we have learnt about ourselves over the last few weeks and share it! Here are some photos of us achieving high learning zones and being very determined as we work on our books:

We would also like to invite parents to come and look at our books on Thursday 22nd October 8.15am-8.30am and 3.15pm-3.40pm. We are all very excited to share our learning with you!

By V Holloway19th October 2015

It was a very exciting morning in 1e as Sasha Rae received her Open, Grow, Believe gold pin! She has opened her heart to others by building strong reciprocal relationships, she is always growing her learning and believes in herself and others.

Congratulations Sasha Rae! We are all very proud of you and enjoyed celebrating with you and your family.

Year 1’s busy morning!

By V Holloway6th October 2015

Year 1e had a very busy morning today as they were preparing sandwiches for curriculum tea this evening!

We took this opportunity to learn about instructions.Step by step we wrote down how to make a sandwich, we had to make sure we had put our instructions in the right order.  We also practised our bossy verbs (put, cut, get) and used very bossy voices!

We are looking forward to sharing our food with parents this evening and can’t wait to bake next Wednesday for our next curriculum tea!

Year 1’s (very long) Walk!

By V Holloway30th September 2015

On Monday year 1 at Countess Way ignited their All About Me project with a walk to Brooklands Farm Fen Street and then to the park! On our journey we looked at the things we saw around us, we saw houses, trees, lots of cars and lorries and builders working on building sites!

As we are reading Rosie’s Walk in Literacy,on our walk from Fen Street to the park we discussed what we could go around, over and past. We continued to explore these directions and more when playing in the park!

We jumped off the rocks.
We climbed up the climbing frame.
We slid down the slide.
The year 1 team were so impressed with how determined everyone was on our long journey and we saw such sensible, responsible walking. We can’t wait to use our experiences in our writing this week!
Also, a BIG thank you to the parent helpers who kindly came with us on our walk. We are all very grateful for you supporting us!

1e are on the move!

By V Holloway26th September 2015

This week in year 1 we started our lanyard learning and were moving round the year 1 unit to complete our learning. We were very determined to achieve high learning zones despite all the change and challenges we faced (including choosing our own learning). Here are some photos of us choosing our own activities and resources while maintaining high learning zones:

Well done for being so determined year 1!

In literacy we have been reading ‘Rosie’s Walk’ and we are very excited to go on our on walk to Brooklands Farm Fen Street and to the park on Monday!

Please remember to bring a packed lunch and drink. Hopefully the weather will be lovely!

Lanyard Learning

By V Holloway21st September 2015

WOW! What a super start to the week. Year 1 started their lanyard learning today and showed me just how responsible and determined they are to take their next steps in their learning! They were able to independently choose the activity to complete on their lanyard and even achieved learning zones 4 and 5!

I am incredibly proud of each and everyone of you for being so determined!

(Photos to follow  very soon!)

A determined start!

By V Holloway8th September 2015

Welcome back to all the Year 1’s who have joined us at Countess Way! We have been familiarising ourselves with our new school and classrooms. Reciprocal relationships have started to be built through giving good eye contact and gotcha smiles! We have also seen some DETERMINED muscles starting to grow.

It has been a fantastic start to the new year!

Architecture

By V Holloway15th June 2015

Today 5c moved onto to looking at the Architecture aspect of our building project. We are now looking at designing the outside of buildings.

This afternoon we explored the history of architecture by creating timelines showing the key architecture movements in history, from Mudhuts to Space architecture and Pyramids to Eco-Friendly designs. We looked carefully at the features of different buildings to discuss how architecture has changed over time.

We also had an assembly from Matt and Richard (the architect), who explained how to design the outside of the building and the important things to keep in mind such as sustainability and durability.
