I have loved watching you grow together as a team as you have taken your next steps in your learning journey.

Summer holiday homework

By 22nd July 2015

Summer Holiday Homework

During our transition Project, we looked at the painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ by Thomas Gainsborough. We will be continuing to link our learning to the painting in September, as part of the National Gallery’s ‘Take One Picture’ project.

Please choose at least one of these activities to do for your summer holiday homework:

  • Re-create the painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ in your own style! You could paint it, collage it, do it as a mosaic, sketch it etc
  • Research Thomas Gainsborough – his life and his most famous pieces of artwork. Create a Powerpoint presentation or information leaflet about him.
  • Pretend you are Mr or Mrs Andrews and write your diary. You could share how you are feeling, your thoughts on your relationship etc.
  • Write a story with Mr and Mrs Andrews as your main characters and their farm as the setting.

Please bring your homework into school on the first day back, Monday 7th September, so that classes can share what they have done over the summer together.

If you are looking for a day out which will link to our ‘Take One Picture’ Project, then we recommend you visit the National Gallery in London and find Thomas Gainsborough’s painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ to have a look at the real thing!

Building our Designs

By jenniferhover11th June 2015

We have started building models of our designs. We have been thinking about the best materials to use, how to make our models 3d and how to create models that match our design drawings.

There has been brilliant teamwork, listening and sharing in our classroom!

2400 Steps!

By jenniferhover9th June 2015
We went to visit the new school site on Friday. We enjoyed wearing hard hats and Hi – vis jackets. The builders showed us around the new site and we had a picnic on the new field.

Shared Designs

By jenniferhover9th June 2015

We met up with our clients yesterday. We shared the designs we have made so far. We collected feedback from the client so we know what needs to be changed in our next design. The two year groups worked brilliantly together sharing their learning and giving feedback.

We also had an assembly with Matt from the building company. He taught us more about how to redraft our designs.

By jenniferhover3rd June 2015

On Monday we made a client brief to give to Miss Roberts class explaining everything we would like to see in a year 1 classroom.

We then swapped with Year 4 and they gave us this list:

Today we started drawing our designs for the different areas Year 4 have asked for.

Brain Poems

By jenniferhover20th May 2015
We have been learning a poem all about the brain.

We are going to perform our poem to the rest of the school in assembly on Friday.

Today we had a go at writing our poems in the shape of brains. We had to be really determined to make sure our letter all sat on the line even though the lines were wiggly!

Today we started our new whole school project all about the brain.

To ignite our learning for this week we worked with Miss Broome to create a huge brain.

Our art work will be going up on display in our school.

Getting Messy!

12th May 2015jenniferhover

Year 1c have worked together on a whole class project today.  We have been working as a team. We started by looking at a map of the world. We are trying to learn the names of the seven continents and five oceans. We then decided to get into groups to create our own world map.

Some of us made the sea back ground. Others worked on creating the land.
