Every Thursday afternoon at 2.30 for the last two weeks there has been a very calm atmosphere at Countess Way. We have started a shared reading time across KS1 & 2 and it is a truly magical experience! All staff have offered a book to read and the children have signed up to the book they want to listen too. It has been lovely to see the excitement, high levels of engagement and children whisked off into the fictional worlds of some of our favourite authors.
This half term the books include:
The Borrowers
The Magic Finger
Danny the Campion of the World
The Magic Faraway Tree
Wind in the Willows
Fantastic Mr Fox
Here we are listening to the stories.
Last Wednesday, 1D were delighted to have the chance to venture to Rushmere Country Park. Our morning there was spent discovering our surroundings, learning the key rules and exploring the mathematics opportunities available in the outside classroom. We learnt all about trees including different types and even how to tell how old they are! We had so much fun and we can’t wait to go back 🙂
In assembly today Mrs Higginbottom talked to us about what it meant to be Brooklands boys and girls. We thought about the qualities we need to have to be part of the Brooklands team and what we would need to do to Open, Grow and Believe.
Some of the words we came up with were:
Learning zone 4 or 5
High well being
Reciprocal relationships
Gotcha smiles
Open dialogues
Growing our relationships
Good eye contact
Believing in ourselves, others and our team
If you get a chance to, maybe your children could talk to you about what they have done at school today to Open, Grow & Believe.

Year 1 team
Year 1 on Countess Way had great fun making decorations for our christmas tree yesterday afternoon! A massive thank you to all the parents and siblings who came to join in the festive fun with us. It was lovely to see everyone working in partnership and the results were amazing! The classroom was covered in glitter, glue and cotton wool but our tree looks incredible and represents our year group perfectly!
Well done Year 1!

Year 1 have come to the end of their Great Fire of London project. This project has seen the children not only emerge themselves in the time through our incredible Ignite day and fantastic role play area, but has also sparked some amazing learning. The children have gained so much knowledge and really blossomed into insightful Historians. In order to summarise our project we decided to create our very own timelines to track the key events and here are our results:
A huge well done for the past few weeks and I can’t wait to see how our new project of the Three Little Pigs goes!
A huge congratulations to Year 1D, who not only won Lionel the Lining Up Lion last week but also the very prestigious Attendance Trophy! To top it off we also went and won the Attendance Trophy again this week, a big well done it is so lovely to see how determined we are as a class to come to school everyday and set a good example around the school.
Keep up the good work 🙂
