Year 2 meet paralympic swimmer, Kate Grey!

By Mrs L Odell12th July 2016

As part of our transition project ‘Aspiration and Insiration’ we met paralympic swimmer Kate Grey who told us the story of how she lost her arm in farm machinery when she was just 2 years old.

Kate talked to us about determination, resilience and finding solutions! We had lots of questions for Kate and we were excited by the stories she shared with us. We enjoyed some games and activities and Kate even showed us some of her medals that she has won.

Year 2 raise money for NSPCC

By Mrs L Odell21st June 2016

Year 2 were thrilled to be involved in a fund raising activity this afternoon. Following an assembly by NSPCC representatives,  the children took part in half an hours worth of different physical activities, including skipping, dribbling a football, running and more!

Our thanks go out to all friends and family members who have kindly sponsored the children and helped to raise money for this fantastic charity. If you haven’t done so already,  please return your forms and sponsor money so we can count all your money and announce the grand total of money raised!

Safety Centre Visit

By l hearn22nd April 2016

This week we went on an exciting visit to the Safety Centre. Here we learnt all about staying safe when we’re out and about, at home and on the internet.

“It was great fun. My favourite part was making the 999 call.”

“We learnt that we shouldn’t go down dark alleys. There was a creepy spider that made us all jump when it came down!”

We all enjoyed finding out how to keep younger children safe. We know now to make sure we hold their hand near a road and cross carefully, looking both ways. In Year 2 we know we have to show calm and this will help us be role models to younger children.

Here are some photos from our trip.

The disgusting sandwich!

By Mrs L Odell22nd February 2016

Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed the half term break. Thank you to those of you who have already handed in your homework. You do have until Wednesday to hand it in so don’t worry if you haven’t had time over the holidays.

We have started our new project this morning which is Master Chef! In literacy we are learning about a story called ‘The Disgusting Sandwich’. We have started drawing our own text maps which help us remember all the important events and characters. Over the half term we will be learning how to become successful authors and write our own amazing food related stories!

In Year 2 we have become nocturnal animal experts! We decided that with our new knowledge we wanted to create a whole new species but it had to include the super powers and features of bats, owls and hedgehogs! We are looking forward to telling you all about these crazy creatures!

Mrs Odell took a photo of us because we were in such high learning zones!

Owl visit

By l hearn8th January 2016

Today we had a very special visit from Sarah and her owls. We were able to use our knowledge of owls to answer questions and we found out many more interesting facts. Did you know that not all owls are nocturnal?  Sarah told us this is a myth as only a quarter of owls are nocturnal, the rest are diurnal!

Ask us when we get home about the other interesting facts we learnt!

Welcome back 2a :-)

By Mrs L Odell7th January 2016

Welcome back Year 2!

We have started our new project which is ‘Nocturnal Animals’. This week we have been researching bats and owls in preparation for writing our own information report.

On Monday we enjoyed a DT lesson where we were started making nocturnal animals using willow. We came up with some designs and were taught different ways to use the willow to create shapes. We are looking forward to our next DT lesson where we will be using paper to create a stained glass window effect on our willow animals!
