Year 2 had a fantastic day playing in the sandpit and eating ice cream! We made lots of sandcastles and dug some very big holes!
Good morning!
It was fantastic to see so many children coming to school in their summer gear this morning ready to ignite our Lighthouse project!
Ignite has begun!! Class 2a are currently making seagulls, 2b are enjoying a sensory experience of sand and water while 2c are making a collage Mr and Mrs Grinling!
We are looking forward to our ice cream treat after lunch!
Photos to follow!
Here we are in our second dance lesson where we are learning and practising ready for November’s lantern festival! We are in high learning zones and full of energy! We are looking forward to showing you all soon!
In Year 2 we now have a lunchbox trolley! It lives in the corridor area by the entrance/exit to the playground. If your child has a packed lunch, please ensure that they leave their named lunchbox on the trolley when they arrive in the morning rather than bringing it into the classroom. They will collect it on their way to the hall at lunchtime. Snacks can be left in lunchboxes for them to collect or can be put away in trays.
We also require named water bottles to ensure that the children have access to a drink throughout the day.
Thank you for your ongoing support 🙂
The Year 2 Team
What a super start to the year! Year 2 settled quickly and impressed us with their high learning zones! Long may it continue! Well done Year 2 🙂
This half term our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday’s session will be outside so please make sure children have suitable clothing such as a tracksuit ready for the colder weather including trainers or plimsolls. Thursday’s session will be inside where the children will need shorts and a t-shirt. Please ensure that ALL items of clothing are named to minimise the risk of lost belongings.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs Odell
Hello Year 2! We are looking forward to seeing you all again and can’t wait to hear what you have all been up to over the holidays! Don’t worry, we will have plenty of time to share our news this week. In fact, we are dedicating the whole of Monday to talk (and write!) about your holiday adventures!
See you in the morning… and don’t forget your gotcha smile!!
From the Year 2 Team,
Mrs Greenwood, Miss Hearn, Miss Marriott, Mr Morrison and Mrs Odell 🙂
I hope this post finds you all well rested after the summer holiday and ready to come back to school on Monday ready to learn!
We had fantastic year and you all did amazingly well during transition. I’m sure you will all continue to thrive in Year 3 and become ‘balanced’. I am looking forward to seeing you throughout the coming year and hearing about your new learning journeys and achievements.
Summer Holiday Homework
During our transition Project, we looked at the painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ by Thomas Gainsborough. We will be continuing to link our learning to the painting in September, as part of the National Gallery’s ‘Take One Picture’ project.
Please choose at least one of these activities to do for your summer holiday homework:
- Re-create the painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ in your own style! You could paint it, collage it, do it as a mosaic, sketch it etc
- Research Thomas Gainsborough – his life and his most famous pieces of artwork. Create a Powerpoint presentation or information leaflet about him.
- Pretend you are Mr or Mrs Andrews and write your diary. You could share how you are feeling, your thoughts on your relationship etc.
- Write a story with Mr and Mrs Andrews as your main characters and their farm as the setting.
Please bring your homework into school on the first day back, Monday 7th September, so that classes can share what they have done over the summer together.
If you are looking for a day out which will link to our ‘Take One Picture’ Project, then we recommend you visit the National Gallery in London and find Thomas Gainsborough’s painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ to have a look at the real thing!
Last week Year 2 has a great visit to the site of the new school. They had lots of questions and enjoyed looking around the new classrooms. We are looking forward to doing some architecture project work with the rest of the school next week.
Here we are about to go into the building!
In Year 2 we are thoroughly enjoying Brain Week! We wanted to find out more about our brain and what we can do to keep it healthy.
We found out that our brain can tell you how your body feels and that the chemicals that do this are called neurotransmitters. When the neurotransmitters in your brain are out of balance, it can stop your brain working properly!
There were three different neurotransmitters that we learnt about today.
- Serotonin makes you feel happy. It is responsible for serenity and happiness. If you have too little serotonin on your brain you might feel down or unhappy.
- Glutamate is needed for learning and memory…but if you have too much it can make you feel angry and irritated!
- Dopamine makes you feel energetic and excited, but if you have too little dopamine you might start to make bad choices!
We wondered how to balance the neurotransmitters. We thought it might be tricky! Luckily, you can eat foods that will help to keep the neurotransmitters in balance!
Tomorrow, we will be finding out what foods we can eat to balance our neurotransmitters!
