VW week begins

22nd October 2014admin

What an amazing start to the week the year 4 children have had. They finally found out that their project for this week is about solving logistical problems and then had the opportunity to see cars from the VW brand on Monday.

Then on a busy Tuesday, the children had the opportunity to ask people from the VW breakdown assistance group and The AA some questions about how to solve the baffling breakdown system. This also included the chance to get to see 6 different types of breakdown vehicle. The children were full of ‘superb questions’ and ‘were some of the most polite children that The AA men had worked with’.

We can’t wait in year 4 to be able to set up our own control centre and begin co-ordinating our own Brooklands Breakdown service.

Reading at home questions

17th October 2014admin
Dear parents,

As we mentioned at the year 4 curriculum teas, the reading questions that you can use to help your child with their reading are below. These questions should be used after they have read and we would encourage the children to look back in the book to find evidence for their answer.

Please only use 3 questions at a time as the focus is also on the children’s ability to read fluently and with expression.

The Curse of the Egyptian Tomb

16th October 2014admin

Year 4 today shared their incredible learning with their parents as they invited them into their living tomb. The children first had the problem of trying to entice their parents into the tomb and began by reading their persuasions to them. Some parents seemed hard to win over but the children managed to wow them with their vocabulary and their ideas.

After this, the parents were able to look at some of the Egyptian artefacts that the children had created across the project and were able to meet two embalmers giving a demonstration of mummification as one of our children became a real life mummy.

The tomb and persuasions were well received and the children created a fantastic show, explaining all of their knowledge that they had learnt over the last 4 and a half weeks.

Year 4 Curriculum teas

13th October 2014admin

Thank you to all of the parents that made it to the curriculum tea this week. It was great to see you all there and share the children’s cooking with you. I know the children loved being able to share their baking with you, even if some did take the nicest decorated cakes from you.

The Great Brooklands Bake Off!

3rd October 2014J Francis

This afternoon the children in Year 4 put on their baking hats in preparation for the curriculum teas on Monday and Tuesday.  We’ve made some delicious cakes to share with you!

Over the past two weeks we have been growing our knowledge of addition and subtraction methods.  This will be put into practice further next week when we look at measurements.

In Literacy, we have been learning to write a persuasive text…can you practice your persuasive skills on your parents over the weekend?

We are looking forward to inviting you all into our classes for the curriculum teas next week!

Have a lovely weekend.

Year 1 and 4 share their learning

22nd September 2014admin

1a and 4a met on Friday to share their amazing key author learning. 1a were superb in showing their amazing floor book with all of their learning inside and in particular not only singing their Gruffalo song but teaching the year 4 children their song. It was clear that year 1 had learnt a lot about Julia Donaldson.

Unfortunately, 4a’s edited version of their interview with Micheal Morpurgo had a few technical hitches however they were still able to show some clips of their work.

We can’t wait to share more learning with different years across the school.

The Egyptians took over!

By admin22nd September 2014

The children in year 4 had an amazing ignite today as they left their normal selves behind and became Egyptian slaves, dancers, Pharaohs, craftsmen and actors today.

They had an amazing morning in which they were given the alter ego of an Egyptian to perform as for the day and took part in creating a variety of different objects that would have been placed in a Pharoah’s tomb. Amazing learning zones were achieved by all of the children in the morning as they were able to physically learn about the Egyptians.

Some children made charm bracelets to place in their tomb.
Some children learnt how to create embalming oils and mummify something.
Whilst some children created their own perfume from herbs.
In the afternoon, the children became their Egyptian counterparts as slaves, dancers, Pharaohs and actors. The children were superb and were congratulated on their acting skills.
A huge thanks must be said to all of the parents, aunties and adults who helped on the day.
The children are definitely excited about the rest of their project and are looking forward to creating their own tombs.

Year 3 and 4 exit at the end of the day

3rd September 2014admin

Dear parents/guardians of children in year 3 and 4.

In order to ensure the children leaving the school at 3:30pm can leave the building and be collected safely, can the parents please wait to the side of the year 3/4 exit door nearest to the car park?

The year 3 children will line up closer to the door and the year 4 children will line up nearer the MUGA (multi use games arena). When the teachers can see who is collecting the children, they will send them to you.

Thank you in advance for your help
