As you can see, the new Year 5s have been busy practicing this wonderful song, written by Alyssa. They have shown real determination and commitment to learning to the words off by heart. Well done girls!

Just a reminder that it is the Year 5 trip to Warner Bros Studios for their Harry Potter project this Wednesday. There are still a few reply slips that have not been returned to school so please bring them in tomorrow.
Please ensure that children arrive at school on time on Wednesday morning at 8.30 with a packed lunch in a named disposable bag. It will be very busy and there will be lots of other schools there so we ask that children come in their Brooklands school uniform and are wearing comfortable school shoes as we will be on our feet all day.
We should be back before the end of the school day so children can be picked up as normal at 3.30.
Thank you again for all the kind offers of support for the trip – unfortunately, the studios only give a small amount of adult tickets to schools and so we had to offer it to parents on a first come first served basis. We spoke to the parents who returned their slips first and are coming on the trip before Easter so if you didn’t speak with us then thanks again for the offer but we are unable to take you with us.
Year 5 teachers
We have had a fantastic day today working with Dan from ‘Portals to the Past’ and learning lots about life in Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age Britain. We began the day being split into tribes – Bear tribe and Wolf tribe and throughout the day, the two tribes competed on a variety of Stone Age challenges. We learnt lots of new and interesting facts about the Stone Age, did a scavenger hunt style quiz to find out information for ourselves, played a fishing game and re built stone henge!
We ended the day with the opportunity to look (and touch) a variety of artefacts from the Stone Age and Bronze Age, including a woolly mammoth’s tusk!
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the Year 5 children and parents who made such an effort with costumes – the children looked fantastic and it really helped bring the day to life!
Here are a few photos from today…
Please have a look at some ideas to help your child at home.
Please practise these spellings ready for your spelling test next week.

Literacy
Imagine you have stepped foot into Mrs Knight’s/Mr Kerin’s cupboard and it has transported you to the Stone Age. Can you write a short story (using simple, compound and complex sentences effectively and choose 4 targets from your year group standard) where you are faced by a mammoth.
Project:
Can you investigate these Stone Age questions ready to start our project when we return? You can also look into anything you find interesting about the Stone Age, ready to share with your class.
When was the Stone Age and what did human homes look like?
What animals were around during the Stone Age?
What tools did humans use during the Stone Age?
What was life like for Stone Age people?
How was the Stone Age different to the period of time before and after?
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Year 5 and 6 workshops tonight. We know it was a lot of information to take in all at once but hopefully you have improved your understanding of how we teach Maths, Reading, Writing, Spellings and times tables in school and have some more ideas of how you can help in some of these areas at home.
Powerpoints, resources and handouts will be posted on the website soon.
