We have had lots of fun learning about Inheritance. We have tried matching photos of our teachers’ families members into family groups by looking at their inherited physical characteristics!
Parents,
We are fizzing with excitement about tonight! Please remember it starts at 5pm and the children are staying in school until the festival starts. The main event will be taking place on the mugga pitch but we are kicking everything off with dances on the balcony so get here early to secure a good spot!
See you later,
Year 6 team
We’ve tested out our map reading skills today. We annotated a blank map of the world with as many countries we could find and began to use a key to compare landscapes and climates.
Wow! What a week back-we’re exhausted already. We have had a fantastic first week of the new school year.
Throughout the week, we have been working very hard on our redrafting and review – based on Ron Berger’s Austin’s Butterfly. Here are two examples of the standard we have achieved in our redrafting so far:
On top of that, we’ve used a brilliant new learning tool called Padlet to excellent effect! Padlet lets us write collaboratively on the smartboard using our iPads. 6a even showed 3b how it is done!
But the highlight of the week was definitely Science with Mrs Khatoon, who did Bubble-ology with us! We made bubbles inside of bubbles:
Phew! What will we do next week?
We had another visit from Matt again today, who spoke to us about the redrafting process. We are looking forward to applying this to the writing that we have been working on this week!
Thank you, Matt!
Year 6 have been reunited today after the residential trip to New Barn in Dorset. We had an absolutely fantastic time and wish we could do it all over again!
It is lovely to be all back together though and the children have enjoyed thinking about how we ‘belong’ with our Brooklands community and the ‘UN Rights of the Child’. We are going to apply this thinking into a piece of persuasion where we advertise other people to join our Brooklands Farm family!
This afternoon, Matt, the project manager of the new building came in to tell us all about the different design stages of a new building. We are looking forward to applying this learning later in our building project!
Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed the brain week so far!
We have carried out some interesting research about the brain and had a visit from ‘The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust’ to hear a first-hand account of what it is like to live with a brain injury.
We then applied all of the knowledge we acquired into models of the brain, which we labelled and wrote accompanying paragraphs describing each section and its role within the body.
Thank you to Mrs McCarville and the other visitors from The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust – we learnt so much from you!
Today, year 6 visited Oakgrove Secondary School for their first taster of secondary style lesson and learning.
After a long walk, the children settled into maths problem solving activity completing lots of hand on tasks. The children’s learning zones were exceptionally high and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
Here’s some pictures of our day!
Year 6 have been welcomed back with an ignite for our new project ‘Nelson Mandela- Prison or Freedom’.
The children have spent the morning completing three different activities:
Firstly, the children have been spending the morning researching the countries of Africa, looking in particular at one of the countries and the physical and human features of that country using globes, atlas’ and websites.
They have also been learning about rotation, symmetry and transformation and using this knowledge and understanding about this to create their own African art!
Lastly, the children have been researching Nelson Mandela’s most famous quotes and creating posters using these quotes, which we hope to display down our year 6 corridor!
Have a look at some of our pictures:
This half term, Year 6 have been working on developing a website, which shows all of their knowledge about different worlds.
The websites have been amazing! Well done year 6!
