New Barn Day 4 Update

By Mrs c Hern4th June 2015

The children had another good night, followed by a big breakfast and nature games this morning. They have just boarded a coach to go fossil hunting on the beach.

When they get back to the centre tonight, they will be having a BBQ and a shindig!

New Barn Day 2

By Mrs c Hern3rd June 2015
Yesterday brightened up and the children had lots of fun meeting the Dorset nature, cooking stew and making pots! Everyone had a good night sleep and were a bit grumpy when they got woken up to get ready this morning, but now everyone is looking forward to the day ahead.
Today is the living history day where the children will be learning about the Vikings. Fingers crossed it stays dry so the children can build dens later!

By Mrs c Hern2nd June 2015

Cookie

On the way down to Dorset, the children got to munch on this scrumptious giant cookie, which was generously donated by Cameron and his family. Thank you very much.

What a wonderful way to start the adventure.

Year 6 Brain week so far…

By Miss Rebecca Snowdon20th May 2015

Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed the brain week so far!

We have carried out some interesting research about the brain and had a visit from ‘The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust’ to hear a first-hand account of what it is like to live with a brain injury.

We then applied all of the knowledge we acquired into models of the brain, which we labelled and wrote accompanying paragraphs describing each section and its role within the body.

Thank you to Mrs McCarville and the other visitors from The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust –  we learnt so much from you!

We are Strong and Powerful learners!

8th May 2015Mrs c Hern

This week, year 6 have mostly been focusing on confidence and well being work, ready for SAT’s next week. We are looking forward to celebrating the children’s success with them next week and seeing how much they have grown in their learning since key stage one.

It is important that the children understand that these tests only cover core subjects. There are many skills and talents that the children have that make them special and unique that are not assessed. All of our children are strong and powerful learners and have grown so much throughout the year. Some of our children speak more than one language, others participate in dance, music and sports, all of which are not accessed. Every child will have their own area in which they excel and it is important that at times where tests take place, these strengths are not forgotten and it is imperative that they are celebrated.

We have invited all year 6 children in for breakfast next week. This will give the children the opportunity to sit down, relax and have breakfast with their friends. We have organised a range of fun and relaxing activities that the children can select from, which match their skills and interests.

We are very proud of the children and their achievements this year and would like to spend SATs week celebrating their success with them! Every day we watch all of the children shine as leaders in our school, who are kind and inspirational role models to the younger children. We are all a team at Brooklands and we will face all challenges together.

We hope you have a nice a relaxing weekend and remember that you are a STRONG and POWERFUL learner!

Year 6 Closing the Gap Plans

18th March 2015Mrs c Hern

From this week, year 6 pupils are becoming even more independent!
The children will be bringing home their close the gap plans on Friday, where they have analysed their learning and planned their own homework.

Close the gap plans need to be in school from Wednesday to Friday each week, so that they can be updated and reviewed in lessons.

As this is planned and owned by each individual child, year 6 homework will no longer appear on the website as it is completely personalised.

We look forward to seeing the children in charge of their home learning!
