On Monday 11th September, to Ignite our project ‘Why do we tell stories?’, we are planning an exciting event for the children. James Nicol, author of ‘The Apprentice Witch’ has agreed to visit the school to talk to the children about his books.
James is an innovative author and speaker and we are delighted to have secured a visit by him. He will be talking to the children to provide inspiration for their own writing and also enthusing them about reading. This will support the literacy work that we do in school and we hope it will prove a stimulating experience for the children.
We will be reading ‘The Apprentice Witch’ before and after James’ visit however you may want to research the author at home.
Countess Way children will be walking from Countess Way to Fen Street in the morning and returning to Countess Way for the usual pick up time. You should drop your child off at Countess Way at normal time, and collect your child at Countess Way at normal time. If your child is hot dinners on Monday, we have arranged for them to have their lunch at Fen Street. If your child is packed lunch, they should bring packed lunch as normal.
Have a lovely weekend!
The Year 4 Team
On Wednesday Year 5 had our Titanic Ignite day. We all dressed up as first, second and third class passengers and were given a real person from Titanic so that we had a character to act as throughout the day. We really enjoyed having a Titanic style dinner in the afternoon with different food and entertainment depending on our class. While we were having our dinner, there was a sudden unexpected announcement that we had crashed into an iceberg!! We tried to evacuate quickly but found different obstacles in our way depending on our class and our gender! Luckily we all survived the iceberg crash but it helped us imagine how shocking and scary it would have been if we had been on the actual Titanic.
On Wednesday evening, Countess Way was host to a celebration of the talents that we have at Brooklands Farm.
Those children that had been receiving specific instrument tuition from our external providers this year had been invited to show off what they had learnt in front of a packed out hall. There was some beautiful and thoughtful pieces played by all the children with some playing violin, guitar, flute and clarinet. Some children had to be brave and had to play solo pieces and others had to work as a team and be experts with timing when playing in a group.
Well done to all who performed, to their teachers who have helped them grow their talents and a huge thank you to parents who pay for these opportunities and have to listen to our practice sessions.

What an amazing first week in Year 6!
This week we have begun to read the story ‘Holes’ by Louis Sacher.
For homework this week we would like the children to sketch/create a picture of Mr Sir from the description given in the story (see picture below)
Remember to use the information and clues given in the text to create your picture – you could even label your sketch with quotes and evidence to support what you have drawn.
Don’t forget to go onto hit the button (times table games) and also mathletics over the weekend as well.
Homework just for this week is due in on Thursday 13th July as some children are on residential on the Wednesday.
Have a lovely weekend.
