Here are year 2 practising for our lantern festival later today!
Here are a few links to help you at home when practising with your child:
http://jollylearning.co.uk/2010/11/03/jolly-phonics-actions/ This link tells you about the actions we use when we teach the sounds.
This link explains how blending works with a video example:

There are other examples on Youtube of the correct pronunciation of letter sounds. We follow the Letters and Sounds programme.
You can also find the songs that help us to remember the sounds – you can search on Youtube for this but here is a taster from the Jolly Phonics website:

We hope this is helpful! If you have any questions please speak to your class teacher.
It’s not long until the lantern festival at Brooklands Farm.

Children, teachers and parents have been rehearsing and creating to bring you the best lantern festival yet!
I have listened to some great educational speakers such as Professor Tim Brighouse, Sir David Carter Regional Schools and Drs Linda Kaser and Judy Halbert. They have really challenged my thinking and inspired me as a learner. They have posed great questions such as..
As teachers do we reflect on how our culture, ethos and leadership are impacting on our pupils?
How do we make it possible for the teaching profession to pursue what they believe in as well as government targets?
At the heart of all the discussions that I have participated in over the last few days, it is clear that listening to children is what makes the difference to children’s learning.Teachers at Brooklands Farm will always listen and will always make time. Over the next few weeks I will be testing this out and making sure we listen enough.
It has been brilliant to see children who have arrived to Brooklands Farm since September, receive their Open, Grow, Believe pin. This shows that the children are understanding and taking on board the school ethos. Thank you also to the parents who came in to share in the celebration, it’s so important for children to see us working together and celebrating their achievements together.

This is the home learning for year 1 on Countess Way. It is due in on Wednesday 18th November. It continues the learning we have done so far on the Great Fire of London. We look forward to sharing your home learning in class.

6a are on a roll!
Congratulations to the next member of our team to get his Strong and Powerful pin – you were the first boy, well done!

Our Take One Picture Art final piece is nearly finished! The collage shows the story of Brooklands Farm primary school. It contains pieces of artwork, poetry, photos and QR codes linking to powerpoint presentations, made by the children from year1 – 6 on Fen Street and Countess Way, all portraying what Brooklands Farm was like in the past, what it is like in the present or what it could be like in the future.
This project has been a great way of linking the whole community: parents and teachers work also appears on the collage alongside the children’s pieces! We would like to thank all the parents who came to our workshops in September and to the Year 5 and 6 children who helped to collage all the artwork onto the final piece.
Here are a few photos of our final steps in the Take One Picture journey:
