Spring Term 1 Curriculum Letter
Year 5 have had a fantastic day igniting our new project, ‘Who’s in charge?’ We have started our project by exploring how the Anglo-Saxons came to England, how they affect our lives now and what kind of leader Edward the Confessor was. In the afternoon, we re-enacted the Battle of Hastings and made our own shields, swords, spears and axes. The children thoroughly enjoyed this experience and had lots of fun!
This summer, we would love for you to have a go at some of these activities:
And then… bring in a photo or blurb to tell us about your summer!
Enjoy the holidays!
From all the Year 5 and 6 Team
This week we are reading There’s a Monster in My Book!
We read the book book outside and discovered the monster in the book had ESCAPED in our classroom! We went on a Monster hunt and the children wrote how many they found and then counted them.
The monster told us that he wanted to stay in our classroom and play. The children had one monster each who they named, loved, played with and talked to all morning! Here are some photos of all the fun we had this morning.
Today has been our last day in the school in Kandy. It has been an incredible week where we have used collaboration and creativity to develop the children’s understanding of the world. We have loved building relationships with the children and staff and learning alongside them. The school have been extremely welcoming and it has been a great opportunity for both schools to share good practice and develop teaching.
We can’t wait to come back and see our classes and everyone else so we can tell them all about our trip! In future months, we will do lots of work building on the project we have started in Sri Lanka.

There is a new health centre being built opposite our Countess Way Campus. Willmott Dixon invited our children to design some artwork for the hoardings. Each Year group found their inspiration from the following artists:
Year 1- Paul Klee
Year 2- Kadinsky
Year 3- Matisse
Year 4-Andy Warhol
Year 5 – Picasso
Year 6-Van Gough
Here are the photos!
Year 3/4F and 4D had a fantastic day celebrating world book day last week. The energy in the classes was so high and there was a true buzz and excitement for books and reading. The characters they dressed up as were amazing, here are a few:
From Gangsta Granny to Hermoine Granger and from Fantastic Mr Fox to Willy Wonka we had an amazing array of book characters!
We also used their book characters as inspiration for writing a character description:
Don’t forget to use your £1 book token to buy a new book!
Next week, we’ll be starting to think about our story ideas to enter the
BBC Radio 2 500 Words writing competition!

Please write a summary of the plot of your favourite story and keep it in school from Wednesday, to use in school to assist planning.
Please also complete your personalised tasks on mathletics, Sumdog and spellingframe, as well as continuing with your self-study to close your gaps.
A big well done to those people who have been using Sumdog every day. Some children have built over 12 hours now and are seeing that their spelling gaps are narrowing! For those who have not been logging on to Sumdog regularly, please know that this is an amazing resource and we are seeing that it is helping the regular users to progress in their learning journey. You are missing a trick!
The Year 6 teachers
Year 3 have begun learning about the Ancient Greeks. As part of our Ignite day the children took part in a Greek dress up day and participated in a variety of activities, such as creating Greek temples, playing Greek games and learning the Greek myth Pandora’s Box to ignite our learning.
In our maths lessons we have been exploring methods to solve multiplication problems. We had lots of fun creating arrays to work out our questions.
