This week has been assessment week! Well done everybody, you tried really hard.
Your home learning this week:
- Everyone has got a short reading comprehension task (double sided). Please read the text and answer the questions as best as you can. We will be marking these in guided reading next week. This must be in by Wednesday – it needs to stay in school until it is marked.
- Everyone has chosen five spellings from the spelling test this week that they did not get correct. You have already written these on to a blank ‘Look, Cover, Write, Check’ sheet. Please practise these spellings daily, until you have them memorised. Use the back of the page if you run out of space.
- Everyone has different maths tasks which have been set by each teacher. Mr Peter’s maths group has a missing number column addition task. Miss Bold’s group have got a rounding consolidation task. Miss Snowdon’s group have chosen one page of questions from this week’s maths test that they would like to have another go at solving.
These tasks need to be completed by Wednesday. We do not always manage to mark the home learning on the Wednesday but do always mark it before you get given your next task. Please, do not take your home learning home with you until it has been marked! Ideally, you should bring your home learning book in on Wednesday and take it home on Friday with your new task. There is no need to take it sooner.
As always, please do come to home learning club on Tuesday lunchtime. It is open to all!
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Snowdon, Miss Bold and Mr Peters.
Please find attached the maths task for this week. You can print and complete at home or at school.
This is due in on Wednesday. Enjoy!
Miss Snowdon
There was a confusion over the newspaper home work task last week.
So, we’re trying it again!
Well done and thank you to the people who wrote their space research up into a complete newspaper report. You have now had a review session in a small group with Miss Snowdon to discuss the success of each ‘part’ of the report (headline, lead sentence, etc) and whether they have each been written appropriately to fulfill their purpose. From this session, you have clear next steps.
Your task this week, is to write a new draft of your newspaper report using the year six writing ladders and the next steps that you have been given from the review session with Miss Snowdon.
If you did not write up the full report yet, this is your chance! Make sure that the research that you recorded into your box it up plan is written into a full newspaper report. See last week’s home work post to see the visual success criteria for newspaper report writing.
This task is due in on Wednesday. You will also be given a maths task by your maths teacher and a list of spellings.
As ever, do not forget home work club on Tuesday lunch times.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Snowdon, Miss Bold and Mr Peters
Please find attached two versions of our newspaper box it up plan (1 with features included and one without) and the visual aid which is useful when remembering how to write a newspaper report. Paper copies will be sent home too just in case!
You will also be receiving 1 piece of work from your maths teacher and a “Look, cover, write, check” spelling list for this week’s rule (tious and cious).
All tasks are due in for Wednesday next week (7th). As ever, Tuesday lunch time home learning club is open to all.
Miss Snowdon
This week, you have two pieces of home learning due in for Wednesday next week.
The first is reading. You need to read the provided biography of Nelson Mandela and answer the questions.
The second piece is a maths task that has been set by your maths teacher.
If you need another copy of any of these tasks you need to ask your teacher.
Don’t forget that home work club is Tuesday lunch time.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Snowdon
Calling all year six!
There has been a typing error on the home learning.
The writing task and school leader application letters are due in on Wednesday, not Monday!
The art task is due in on Monday; however, as it is required for the ignite day! If there are any printing issues, do not hesitate to email it in to school to be printed here.
Please also be reminded that we provide a Tuesday lunch time home learning club every week. If for any reason, you would prefer to do your home learning in school with a teacher nearby to assist then do come along.
Please find a copy of the home learning task in the link below:
Note – the formatting corrects itself once you download it.
Summer Holiday Homework
During our transition Project, we looked at the painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ by Thomas Gainsborough. We will be continuing to link our learning to the painting in September, as part of the National Gallery’s ‘Take One Picture’ project.
Please choose at least one of these activities to do for your summer holiday homework:
- Re-create the painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ in your own style! You could paint it, collage it, do it as a mosaic, sketch it etc
- Research Thomas Gainsborough – his life and his most famous pieces of artwork. Create a Powerpoint presentation or information leaflet about him.
- Pretend you are Mr or Mrs Andrews and write your diary. You could share how you are feeling, your thoughts on your relationship etc.
- Write a story with Mr and Mrs Andrews as your main characters and their farm as the setting.
Please bring your homework into school on the first day back, Monday 7th September, so that classes can share what they have done over the summer together.
If you are looking for a day out which will link to our ‘Take One Picture’ Project, then we recommend you visit the National Gallery in London and find Thomas Gainsborough’s painting ‘Mr and Mrs Andrews’ to have a look at the real thing!
