On Friday the Year 5 & 6 football team took part in a tournament at the MK Dons Dome with several other schools involved.
The team played well in their first 4 games managing 2 wins, 1 draw and a loss. As the group was so fiercely contested we knew we needed a big win in our last game.  In order to qualify out of the group in 2nd place and reach the finals held in January, we would need a big win in our last game.
The game started at a fast pace and within a minute Brooklands Farm were ahead thanks to a long range shot. We continued to dominate and towards the end of the game we found ourselves 4-0 up. We had given ourselves a chance but we still believed we needed more goals. As we were pushing forward we were caught on the break and the opposition were awarded a penalty. The opposition’s player missed the target. The referee then blew his whistle. Brooklands Farm had won 4-0, but was it enough?
All the teams sat down and awaited the results.
We were then informed by the organisers how close it was. Emerson Valley and ourselves were joint on points and goal difference but the deciding factor was goals scored. Amazingly by winning 4-0 we had finished 2nd and gone through, by just a single goal!
If we had conceded that last minute penalty we would have been eliminated and finished 3rd.
This was a great achievement from the team and we look forward to the finals in January!
