Collaborating with Kandy!

By l hearn26th June 2018

This week we (Miss Hearn and Miss White) have been given an incredible opportunity by the British Council to go to Sri Lanka and collaborate with one of the schools there. So far, we have been educating them on the importance of recycling in order to reduce waste and achieve one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We have created a very positive partnership with the school, which we will maintain when we return to England so that Brooklands Farm can do some collaborative learning with schools around the world to reduce waste!

In the evenings, the teachers have been kind enough to taken us on a tour of the city to understand their culture. We have tried lots of Sri Lankan food and have seen lots of different animals, including monkeys, lizards and elephants!

We will have to tell you all about it when we are back!

Celebrating a fantastic week of learning!

By l hearn29th June 2018

Today has been our last day in the school in Kandy. It has been an incredible week where we have used collaboration and creativity to develop the children’s understanding of the world. We have loved building relationships with the children and staff and learning alongside them. The school have been extremely welcoming and it has been a great opportunity for both schools to share good practice and develop teaching.

We can’t wait to come back and see our classes and everyone else so we can tell them all about our trip! In future months, we will do lots of work building on the project we have started in Sri Lanka.

Mathletics Summer Challenge!

By l hearn20th June 2018

Next week there is a Mathletics Summer Challenge, where we compete against other schools to get the most Mathletics points! The competition runs from 25th June – 1st July 2018.

Please encourage your children to get logged on and complete lots of activities on there so that they can gain points for our school (and practise lots of concepts that they’ve learnt this year in school)! We would love to get as many points as possible and get as high up on the schools leader board as we can!

Good luck everyone!

Finding angles

By E Redley16th June 2018
Year 3 have been learning all about angles this week in their maths lessons. After learning that an angle is made from two straight, connected lines, we went outside to find angles in our environment. The children were very enthusiastic and they managed to find so many different angles! We have also learned that angles have names such as right angle, acute and obtuse.
Year 3 children, can you explain to an adult at home what each type of angle looks like? Can you find examples in your home?

The Living Rainforest Trip – Year 3

By A Gallacher5th June 2018

Year 3 recently enjoyed a trip to a real, living rainforest. They saw a huge variety of plants and animals and didn’t even need to leave the country to see it with their own eyes! 3E’s Mooch even made a guest appearance…
