Week 2 – Class 2c weekly update!

By S Marriott15th January 2016

This week, we have worked hard to write our own reports on owls which has matched perfectly with our nocturnal animals project. The children have grown their knowledge of using connectives, super sentence starters and embedded clauses to make our writing more interesting!

In Maths, we have learnt about the value of different numbers and have used this knowledge to order numbers. We continued growing this knowledge to compare numbers and linked this to the wingspan of an owl.

Thank you for all your hard work this week! Keep it up!

Owl visit

By l hearn8th January 2016

Today we had a very special visit from Sarah and her owls. We were able to use our knowledge of owls to answer questions and we found out many more interesting facts. Did you know that not all owls are nocturnal?  Sarah told us this is a myth as only a quarter of owls are nocturnal, the rest are diurnal!

Ask us when we get home about the other interesting facts we learnt!

Black History Month – Mary Seacole

By 23rd October 2015

As part of Black History Month KS1 have been learning about Mary Seacole. We found out that she nursed wounded soldiers in the Crimean War between 1854 – 1856. Mary stood up for what she believed in and risked her own life to save others. Look out around school for portraits of Mary that the children have created this week.

Year 2 Science dilemma!

By Mrs L Odell6th October 2015

As part of our project about Lighthouses, we have been learning about the properties of materials.

Miss Low heard about the fantastic learning that was happening in Year 2 and posed us a dilemma… With all her travelling back and forth to our two sites, she keeps forgetting her lunch! Miss Low suggested a rope to transport her lunch from one school to the other (like in The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch!) but could we make a waterproof lunch box to make sure she wouldn’t have soggy sandwiches if it rained?!

We chose some materials to test and wrote our predictions as to whether they would be waterproof or not and why. We then tested the materials and wrote our findings.

We are well on the way to designing a waterproof lunchbox for Miss Low’s sandwiches! Hooray!!
