Igniting our pirate project!

By 4th November 2015

We had great fun igniting our pirate project, the children showed fantastic learning zones throughout the day and their was a lovely buzz of excitement! We started the day with a treasure hunt to find a diary entry from a cabin boy, we will be exploring this further in literacy and having a go at writing our own! We moved on to make some musical instruments and then learnt lots about who pirates are!! We are looking forward to linking sound with our pirate project and will keep the website updated with celebrations of their learning!

A special visitor came to visit!

By 18th October 2015

We were lucky enough to have the lovely Miss Kynaston come in to visit us! She and the children enjoyed seeing each other! The children enjoyed asking Miss Kynaston about her overseas school and what is is like to teach there!

Hopefully we will be able to exchange emails with the children in her class and share our cultures!

National poetry day!

By 18th October 2015

As part of National Poetry week on the 8th of October, we connected our Roman project learning with poetry. We learnt a poem about Boudicca, the children wanted to practice and rehearse this to share with you all. Here they are practicing the poem!

The Gift of a Friend

By admin12th October 2015

Year 4 children have created a video to communicate their understanding of the importance of friendship. At Brooklands Farm, we believe that friendship is a gift and we work hard to ensure our relationships are reciprocal and longstanding!

Our Roman Ignite trip!

28th September 2015

Wow what fun we had today!! We had the opportunity to take part in a Roman banquet, where we got to see many of the meals the Romans once indulged in! We thought some of them sounded nice, but others such as calf brain custard didn’t take our fancy as much! We looked closely at what would be on a Roman banquet table! I wonder if the children remember why the feather was on the table!

After this we met a Roman soldier who took us on as recruits in the army. We learnt that we would be fed and have somewhere to live but we didn’t like the sound of the punishments! It was interesting to see all the different weapons and what they were used for!

After some lovely lunch in the glorious sunshine and surroundings of Bradwell Abbey we explored our creative skills and made some mosaics.

There is a small selection of photos below! Thanks for a wonderful day year 4! 🙂

Tricky maths!

By 24th September 2015

We have been exploring addition and subtraction this week. Most of us felt comfortable with addition and could use these facts to explore maths in great detail. When we moved on to the formal methods of subtraction this became tricky! Some of us wanted to give up, I even heard I can not do maths! Well today we overcame this, we used dienes to help us be practical and see what was happening to the numbers. The more we explore the more we will learn! Well done for sticking with it and believing!

We have shown a lot of growth this week, both in our mindsets and our learning! Well done again year 4!

We are Historians!

By 21st September 2015

Today we became historians! We used historical evidence to look at the chronology of the Roman Empire! The children used QR codes to look at Roman websites on their ipads!

We also wrote down questions that we would like to find out. This will help us to shape our future lessons! There was a lovely buzz of excitement in 4C today and some great learning zones! Well done Year 4!

Achieving together!

By 18th September 2015

I have been exploring learning today and how to help children develop deep level understanding across the curriculum. It has given me more ideas to make the learning exciting and purposeful! I love being a teacher as it allows me to continue my learning journey with the children.

I was amazed to see the wonderful summer home learning that the year 4 children produced, there is a little taster of some of them below! A big thank you to all of the parents and guardians for supporting your children with this learning. Your continued support is truly appreciated!

We are looking forward to beginning our Romans project next week! Watch this space for the information on the exciting ignite trip we have planned!!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs McNeaney 🙂 and Miss Varney
