Year 6 had an inspirational and exciting trip where they went to visit ‘Station X’, now a museum, at the famous Bletchley Park (home of the World War Two Code Breakers).
The children had a tour of the museum and were able to see ‘The Bombe’, the machine which contributed to deciphering German codes sent by the Enigma machine, in full action as well as seeing all the other parts of the museum.
Children also had the amazing opportunity of having specialists from Bletchley Park talk to them about toys and the development and change of toys through World War Two, the development and change of communication, where we even got to communicate, using radio signals, to Russia, Austria and Spain! Finally, the children learnt how to be agents and learnt how to crack different types of codes. The children were exceptionally fortunate to have a go at sending and deciphering codes on the famous German code making machine ‘The Engima’.
We had a brilliant day! Here are some of our photos:
To celebrate excellently presented, acutely written and inspirational imaginative homework and enjoyment of reading in 6b, we are launching the weekly homework and reading award.
Children will be able to win awards, prizes or opportunities for the completing homework to an excellent standard.
Each week one or two children’s homework will be picked to win the homework award. This piece of homework will be photographed and shown on the website for all to see. Once the children have won 10 homework awards, they will be rewarded with a special lunch, prize or opportunity of some sort!
For the reading award, once a child has read and changed one of the school’s reading scheme books (which has been read out loud to an adult), the children will receive a reading award. Once they have read 10 books, the children will receive a special lunch, prize or opportunity.
Here are the first 3 week homework awards:
Yesterday, the digital literacy leaders had their first session teaching the staff of Brooklands Farm.
We set up the classroom into three stations and had set programs, websites and apps to discuss. The staff looked like they had a fantastic time and enjoyed sharing new ideas with each other. They especially liked the look of Padlet and augmented apps.
We can’t wait to see some of these new ideas being used in the classroom.
The digital literacy leaders, were very confident and showed that they had a good understanding! Well done!
Our next step is to teach a class how to code!
Year 6 have been in learning zone 5 all afternoon! We have been researching Bletchley Park and planning our project product. Phew! We’re exhausted!
On Friday 6b finished their Philip Pullman work! It looks amazing!
Teaming up with 3b, we had an afternoon of sharing our Philip Pullman ‘This is your life’ biography videos and reading our biographies to them.
After this we opened our hearts to year 3b as they showed us their learning which was spectacular!
Watch our ‘This is your life’ biographies!
Year 6 ‘ignited’ our new project ‘Cracking the Code’ on Monday!
We had an insightful day learning how coding works on ‘Scratch’ a computer system, understanding the importance of Bletchley Park and how it relates to Code Breaking in World War Two and learning how to write coded messages to our friends in Morse Code, a Zodiac Cipher and a Caesar Cipher!
Here are some pictures of the day!

What a fantastic few days 6b have had back at our school!
We showed our Summer Holiday learning projects! The children really showed a fantastic understand of Philip Pullman and the journey of his life.
We then ‘ignited’ our ‘This is your Life’ Project where the children will be creating imovies using the ipads showing the journey of Philip Pullman’s life!
The children were taught the skills of drawing Polar bears….
…how to create a ‘This is your life’ movie using imovie by inserting sounds, pictures, visuals and voice overs…
…and have been learning about the structure and content of biographies ready to write their own biographies…
They will be using these skills to create a ‘This is your life’ movie on Philip Pullman!
We can’t wait to see the end result on Friday!
